Roland's a hell of a character. All of his stats are strong outside of Agility, and his ability will allow him to score a couple free clues without having to test against shroud. Since the majority of Arkham focuses on either fighting monsters or discovering clue tokens, Roland's strength is his ability to pull double duty on both fronts. Because of how versatile you are, you'll be very busy either fighting or investigating most of the time, leaving you very little time to build up. As a result, you'll need to rely on naturally drawing your tools instead of actively drawing your deck out.

Your game plan will often depend on your group. If you're the only decent fighter, you'll want to tackle monsters to keep your other teammates active on other tasks. If a fighter isn't needed, throw yourself at whatever place has a veritable supply of clues and not too demanding of a shroud check (unless you have any of your Intellect tools out). Your game plan will likely change slightly depending on whether or not you draw impact cards like Dr. Milan Christopher or .45 Automatic, or especially your Roland's .38 Special.

The main weakness of Roland tends to be his lack of available resources, and most of his assets and events tend to be somewhat expensive. If you ever have time to play an Emergency Cache, do so. Luckily, Roland only really needs one weapon to really be a powerful threat to monsters, or one intellect booster to be a quite strong investigator. Take advantage of your versatility and your team with flourish.

Experience/Victory Points:

For full combat, buy Shotgun and Extra Ammunition. Elder Sign Amulet also worth consideration due to his lack of accessories and horror tolerance.

Otherwise, upgrade Magnifying Glass and Beat Cop, and definitely get Encyclopedia. Elder Sign Amulet should probably still be your priority accessory, but Police Badge is a worthwhile second.

I don't go for Disc of Itzamna because it's both a bit expensive at 3 cost, and because as Roland you usually want to fight monsters since they can lead to free clues. That being said, if you are playing on Hard/Expert, Disc might be a better choice since it can kill a monster indiscriminately without putting you through super hard checks.

Interesting choice to commit to hyperawareness. I am still divided on talents. I usually discard them for skill checks as there isn't too many reliable ways to gain resources right now.

I choose to keep Hyperawareness and Physical Training because while resources are fairly limited, if you even have 1 resource when making a tough check it can be a lifesaver. If you have more than 1 resource you can really stack on a check that you can't afford to fail.

I do think Physical Training is a better card for Roland's general gameplan than Hyperawareness, but the latter is sometimes invaluable since it covers two of your weakest stats.

They aren't as potent on a single check as having a skill in your hand, but it pulls more weight over a longer duration since it's repeatable/long term.
