Winning solo with only the core set can be very tricky, as you have very limited cards, and some luck is definitely required, but by removing some seeker cards and focusing on what Roland does best, we might just defeat The Devourer Below.
This deck will get you close, but when playing, especially in the later chapters there are a few important things to remember.
Roland has mediocre Willpower and low Sanity, so to survive we need to hold onto cards that might aid us in surviving traps and events.
Roland cannot evade reliably, everything encountered should be killed.
Unless the 2nd scenario goes incredibly smooth, we cannot expect to beat the clock.
Essential Upgrades
Both are very good cards that will help you survive and get some fast damage, which can easily save you a vital turn.
Utility Upgrades
Encyclopedia has a strong skill, letting you make a series of checks easily. Police badge can make or break the game, giving you both extra , letting you survive traps with less worry, and can be finally discarded to clutch the win. It also has for skill checks if you don't have time to play it.
Offensive Upgrades
This is your best bet to win the final encounter, especially if you cannot proceed quickly enough in the final scenario (likely due to a poor performance in the 2nd).
A shotgun with extra ammo, a beat cop, and a police badge out, you have a strong chance of surviving, so most of your time may be best spent making sure you draw what you need to all but guarantee victory.
