This deck is my first attempt at William. I will play this in a Multiplayer game with Minh Thi Phan, so the investigating will mostly be handled by her.

The idea is to keep this deck as low cost as possible, filled with expendable assets so William can profit from his ability to the fullest. It's verry tempting to get all the big expensive guardian assets but I'm doubtfull William can pay for them comfortably, and more importantly keep paying for them.

For the weapon choices I went for the cheapest weapons that get William to combat 6 and get him the much needed +1 damage. Knife aswell as Baseball Bat can easily be brought back from the discard pile.

Guard Dog and Lantern provide free damage and both have synergy with Williams ability.

Fine Clothes, yeah I know ;), is just there to soak horror and be expendable.

It was a bit of a toss up between "If it bleeds..." and A Chance Encounter but A Chance Encounter works well with the expendable Guard Dog and I have an Idea that The Red-Gloved Man could work rather well in William aswell.

The only doubt I have is if I'd put in Dark Horse or not. It's an amazing card, and since this is a verry low cost deck it should work. but to profit from it the most, William would have to be broke when fighting, but then he'd have no cash to pay for assets out of the discard pile.

Upgrades:

The Obvious ones are: Ever Vigilant, Police Badge, Charisma, Peter Sylvestre, The Red-Gloved Man, Will to Survive, Lucky!

Basic suggestions:

1) Dark Horse is an amazing card, but Yorick can't use it because he prefers to sit on resources so that he can play assets out of his discard pile. I suggest avoiding it entirely.

2) Chance Encounter has a similar problem for Yorick. Even if you combo it with a card like The Red-Gloved Man, since it doesn't work at fast speed you're just spending an action, a card and a resource to boost your base stats when you could just dedicate a card to a skill test instead. It would be a godly card if it worked at Fast speed, but it's mostly going to be a wasted slot in your deck.

3) In theory, I see why you chose to Emergency Aid, it's much less effective for Yorick than First Aid. Yorick's primary problem is sanity loss, not health loss, so Emergency Aid won't be very helpful most of the time - especially when you're be playing Fine Clothes/Leather Coat or allies like Guard Dog. By contrast, First Aid can heal both sanity and health and it discards itself on use (which is usually a bad thing, but makes it godly on Yorick), so Yorick can keep recurring it throughout the game to heal himself or his teammates. I'd cut at least one copy of Emergency Aid to make room for a First Aid.

As for suggestions on adding cards:

1) Lantern is too slow and inefficient for Yorick to abuse it, so I suggest giving Yorick 2 Shovels instead. Yorick can't really investigate (so he doesn't benefit from reducing an area's shroud by one) and Yorick is already a really good dedicated fighter, so he doesn't benefit from discarding Lantern to deal just one guaranteed damage. It's just too expensive and inefficient for Yorick to spend a card slot on any Lanterns By contrast, Shovel provides actual combat benefits to Yorick and he can discard it in a pinch to draw clues.

2) I already mentioned this earlier, but make room for at least one copy of First Aid. Emergency Aid is fine too and it doesn't hurt to include one copy of it, but First Aid is more versatile and you can keep bringing it back throughout the game.

3) Look What I Found is pretty hilarious on Yorick - especially when Yorick already has access to Shovel and Resourceful for grabbing clues. Yorick will never be the dedicated clue hoover on your team, but you can be a good backup clue gatherer once you draw Look What I Found or Shovel.

4) Personally, I think you should cut one of your Fine Clothes to make room for a single copy of Leather Coat. While Fine Cloths can be especially effective during the early stages of each campaign, it's equally hard to beat having the option to get a free Leather Coat every time you kill a monster.

5) Your deck needs at least one copy of Stray Cat. For just one resource, Yorick is guaranteed to evade a non-elite monster at Fast speed (and unlike normal Evasion, Stray Cat doesn't even need you to be engaged with the monster) and you can keep recurring it every other turn. Stray Cat does compete for the ally slot with assets like Aquinnah, Beat Cop, Guard Dog and Peter Sylvester, but since you plan on rushing Charisma that won't be a much of a problem for you.

@Telosa With a measly 2 intellect, Yorick will rarely be able to trigger "Look what I found!".

Hi Vstene, @Telosahas provide some great ideas on how to get the most out of William Yorick's special ability. In general assets that are cheap and that provide a nice benefit are ideal candidates. Along with Stray Cat and Leather Coat, other cards to consider when upgrading are Police Badge and Elder Sign Amulet. I particularly like the idea of the amulet since William Yorick is a little lite on the sanity and Elder Sign Amulet can easily be recycled for 2 resources.

I don't think I agree with FractalMind that Yorick won't be able to trigger off of "Look What I Found!". There are usually locations with shroud 2 or less that he can use it on. But it is costly in a deck like this that wants to spend all its resources on assets. I'm on the fence about keeping it in my list, but not for lack of efficacy.

I'd be playing Machete (for pure power), Stray Cat, Gravedigger's Shovel, and Leather Coat. I think you can cut all of your other weapons (an argument can be made for keeping Knife), Fine Clothes (instead, make your first upgrade Elder Sign Amulet), Resourceful (only providing one icon isn't that great and you don't need the "give me back a card" ability when you already have it), and A Chance Encounter (same reasoning as Resourceful - you don't need this).

For comparison, here's my William list. I don't think I actually like "Let me handle this!", but I'm just trying it out.

@fathermiles@gmail.com Locations with a shroud of 2 or less rarely have more than one clue which makes paying the two resources to play "Look what I found!" less than ideal. You would be better off spending those two resources on a Flashlight where you are guaranteed to successfully investigate a 2 shroud location. Plus a flashlight can be recycled with Yorick's ability. Just my two cents!

I could get behind Flashlight, even though it is less action efficient, since you can get more clues, especially with William's ability. I may make that change in my deck.

I didn't have the same impression as FractalMind of low shroud locations, so I did a quick count. Of the 70 locations with shroud of 2 or less, 48 of them have two or more clues in a multiplayer game. That includes alternate versions of locations and doesn't count any multiples of that location as more than one (e.g. Tear Through Space has 3 copies, but I only counted it once). Even if you account for those factors and any miscounting on my part, I doubt it will bring it down to a level I'd call rare. Playing solo could give me the impression that they're rare. I count that 29 of those 48 locations have one clue per investigator.

@fathermiles@gmail.com, I should have been more specific: for solo investigation "Look what I found!" is less than ideal, but in multiplayer it certainly has its place in a Yorick deck. Great discussion!
