Rex Murphy is a hyper specialized investigator who excels at gathering clues while struggling with…. well, pretty much everything else. This particular deck is intended to be played as a component of a larger group; Rex needs team mates who can keep him out of trouble to let him do what he does best. My group plays Rex alongside with Zoe, Jim Culver, and Jenny Barnes.

When starting play, you want to mulligan aggressively for either (or ideally both), Dr. Christopher and the Magnifying Glass. You want to boost Rex’s ability to investigate so that he can reliably gather two clues with each action. Keep your hand size high if possible to take advantage of higher education, using Prosperous sketches and Cryptic Research to boost your hand back up when needed. Ideally you want to have a Lore of 5+shroud value going into your token pull, so you can gain two clues even on a -3 pull. This will also mitigate the damage caused by Rex’s curse.

Burglary and Scavenging further supplement Rex’s natural talents for investigation, giving him a way to gain additional resources to fund his searches and a way to draw the Disks and Strange Solution back from the discard pile. Pathfinder, Short Cut, and Seeking Answers insure that rex can spend more actions searching for clues, and minimize the actions you need to devote to movement. You want to spend two or three actions a turn investigating as often as possible.

The rest of your team needs to protect Rex, but if you do he can handle almost all of the investigatory needs for a large party almost highhandedly.
