She was trapped in a place she only barely recognized. Long winding corridors, flickering lights, and the never-ending series of doors that would alternate from one side of the hall to the other. And the voices- laughing, screaming, weeping, and all of them begging to be let out. Carolyn knew those voices so well- all of them patients of hers, all of them people she failed to heal, failed to protect, and all of them calling out to her.

She took a deep breath and steeled herself. "MIND OVER MATTER, Dr. Fern." She smiled and stood STEADFAST. She would get through this the only way she knew how- LOGICAL REASONING, CLARITY OF MIND, RATIONAL THOUGHT and the MEAT CLEAVER in her hand. Her first step was FEARLESS, an INSPIRING PRESENCE on the ward.

ALICE LUXLEY was a detective with the Arkham Police Department and Dr. Fern's first patient- The woman had been administering EMERGENCY AID at the site of that grisly murder when she had seen something. Locking her with her HYPNOTIC GAZE, Carolyn had been using HYPNOTIC THERAPY to convince her to speak a little more on the thing she had witnessed.

"No shape- no form- it was just there... It's THE THING THAT FOLLOWS... " Carolyn shook her head at the sound of the footsteps and moved on to the next patient. College football star, PETER SYLVESTRE- "DENY EXISTENCE!" he'd ranted when he came in, and now he saw her approaching. His eyes went wide as he looked beyond her and shook his head, motioning for her to keep going- keep running.

She did.

The HALLOWED MIRROR stood at the end of the winding halls, reflecting a world that was only a little bit more bright. A little less winding. "EUREKA! I've got a plan... " Carolyn muttered to herself- she hoped she was right.
