After coop quarantine playing the game for a couple of months with my wife, I gave solo a go. I played solo with Agnes who was promptly defeated on Night of the Zealots and Jenny with whom I had to resign Dunwich. I quickly pinpointed why I was losing: a combination of survivability, not enough actions to further the acts playing solo, and a lack of firepower to take down high health monsters. This Ashcan Pete deck addresses all of those issues.
First, Duke saves you actions by moving and investigating in one go, without having to spend a bunch of resources on Leo. Fire axe gives you firepower in a scrap, and painkillers heals any damage you might take. Don’t worry about taking too much horror, because the captain of the Arkham High football team can pep talk you into a drug free lifestyle before you get addicted to oxy.
Your first priority will to be aquire level 3 Aquinnah and Charisma. Get rid of Oops!. Level 3 Aquinnah is your Elite Monster Killer. She does it so effortlessly, she’s broken. I’m surprised she gets so little love. Save your Emergency Cachefor when you need to bring out Aquinnah. Do you need her to redirect damage twice on one turn? Ashcans signature ability let’s you ready her for another round of redirecting damage. perfect for retaliate or attacks of opportunity. Investigate while you’re engaged, eat the Attack of opportunity, then ready Aquinnah for the enemy phase. you can take out a lot of bad guys in one round doing this. Duke can take out most weaker baddies, so save Aquinnah ability for tougher enemies. Ashcan’s signature ability can also ready painkillers or football captain Pete if or if you’re in a pinch if you need some extra healing.
Overall, this has been my favorite character to play, so far. He’s made the game fun to play solo, not frustrating!
