READING RAINBOW - CHAPTER 1
•Research Librarian - All of Pete's 5 zero experience, non-rogue card slots are used for 2 librarians and 3 additional tomes. (With the tome theme, Research Librarian puts the "reading" in 'Reading Rainbow'.)
•Occult Lexicon - Card draw, discard, and test-less damage.
•Scroll of Secrets - Using the taboo version of the card, this fills a similar roll to Occult Lexicon, except its uses can be turbo'd out by Pete's ability and when you feel like the scenario is coming to an end, you can begin using the scroll on the Encounter deck.
•Schoffner's Catalog - Searchable by Research Librarian and recycle-able with Scavenging, Schoffner's Catalog becomes an endless source of resources for both you and your fellow investigators. Not only does this have the Tome trait, but it self-discards itself from play when it runs out of resources, and it doesn't take up a hand slot. This card is incredible in this deck.
READING RAINBOW - CHAPTER 2
•Call for Backup - This deck aims to take full advantage of all modes on this card. Test-less clue gathering paired with additional movement, test-less damage, and maybe the best healing in the game (?). (With the 5-color theme, Call for Backup puts the "Rainbow" in 'Reading Rainbow'.)
•Protective Gear - Health, sanity, and protection from the Encounter deck. And since the cost to cancel a Hazard treachery is 1 damage & 1 horror, with this in play, the rogue & mystic modes on Call for Backup now represent an additional cancellation.
•Talisman of Protection & Precious Memento - Good defensive cards which activate relevant modes on Call for Backup. (Precious Mementos begin as Tennessee Sour Mash in the level zero deck, but they serve a similar function.)
•Ice Pick & Professor William Webb - These are common cards in Pete decks for a reason -- they're great. Specifically, the ability to investigate from a distance is important in getting free activations & plays from level 2 Scavenging.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
•Scavenge & Investigate Engine - Between Duke, Track Shoes, Professor William Webb (and to a lesser extent, Call for Backup), this Pete has incredible movement. This is important because getting into position to investigate means getting maximum value out of level 2 Scavenging with a full graveyard. Getting Scavenging online is a top priority for this deck.
•No Stats, No Problem - Not exactly stat-less, but this version of Pete doesn't rely on stats in order to win. Call for Backup, Gravedigger's Shovel, and Miss Doyle represent test-less clues. Call for Backup, Occult Lexicon, and Miss Doyle represent test-less damage. And after including Ice Picks into your actions, the value begins to add up quickly.
•Assembling the Rainbow - It should be noted that Talisman of Protection (mystic), Precious Memento (rogue), and Protective Gear (guardian) each take up non-competitive slots. Together with 9 seeker assets, it becomes relatively easy to assemble a full rainbow and get full value from Call for Backup in longer scenarios.
