The Token Fishing Jim XP version 1 1 0 2.0

Hi all,

this is my attempt at a bag manipulating Jim. Best for Carcossa, given how many 0's and skulls it features. He is mainly fighting, so a good pair of a reasonably good investigator is needed. Pete might be great, since he's good to go from scratch with minimum setup as opposed to our musically gifted fella, but most rogues can feel in nicely, or even a Seeker with some fighting options (cough Acidic cough Ichor) can do.

The idea is to rely offensively on Song of the Dead and Shards. Olive, Dark Prophecy and Grotesque Statue (later) enable us to draw the crucial tokens and Premonition can check the draw for us, whenever needed. Eldritch inspiration can be used to either add extra punch to SotD or cancel turn-ending effect of Rite of Seeking.

We're planning to aim for 0 tokens (either a skull or a plain 0) most of the time with the above mentioned tricks, hence deck is not very heavy on skills. Between his skill and RoS, Jim is able to do some investigation, too. (Also using Drawn to the Flame in the first scenario).

Economy is provided through Uncage the Soul and David. There is no way to deal with David's doom, so plan to kill him, ideally.

Key cards to get are (in the order)

  • Song of the Dead (easiest to trigger with Dark Prophecy and to buff with Eldritch Inspiration)
  • Shards of the Void (ideally replacing Shrivelling at this stage)
  • Recall the future (to make sure using Olive doesn't lead us astray - just call "0" or "skull" whatever you need to trigger bonus to your spell)
  • Grotesque Statues (obvious reason)
  • Charisma (to run both allies, but you might want to play David, get resources and replace with Witch, too - impossible with Charisma)

To make space for these cards, ditch Fine Clothes, Delve to Deep, Drawn to the flame and Hypnotic Gaze (is here just because of synergy - not needed too much).

You can also upgrade bunch of cards:

-Rite of Seeking -Ward of Protection -Unexpected Courage to Seal of the Elder Sign

I am not insisting too strongly on my out of class choices, since they are not critical for the build (although lucky! is a great card for Jim). Double or nothing is jut great considering we're aiming for a 0 token anyway. Deduction is planned to be given to your fellow investigator, so u might exchange it if your mythos-date is a Seeker.

Fell free to use some other cards:

  • Shortcut (great action economy card)
  • Eureka (to fish for key cards, can be committed to an investigation (even for our colleague, just as deduction is planned here) or a spell!
  • Steadfast/Inquiring Mind/Take the Initiative (3 icons might come in handy and the deck is not skill-heavy)
  • Elusive (very useful as teleport mostly, not to deal with enemies)
  • Lone Wolf (for extra economy)

As with all the asset/setup heavy Mystics mulligan all but assets and pray to get key elements - One offensive spell and one of Witch/Statue is quite cool and enables you to progress while you get more cards. You can investigate with base lore of 3 and extra passing skulls quite well, even on hard (with locations of shroud 1-2 or even 3, although much more risky) waiting for enemies to kill.

Awesome stuff. I've been trying to cook up a Chaos Manipulation Jim for solo; nice to see how others are approaching this niche.
