Watch as Luke Robinson goes Vecna mode, playing the entire game from the Dream-Gate. Let's be honest, Power Word's upgrade option, "Bonded" was made for Lukna. Pocket Telescope hinted at the capabilities of Luke playing completely from the Dream-Gate as Lukna, but now we have enemy management too.

Big brain Lukna can eat the petty sanity drop from In The Thick of It and start with Bonded right out of the (Dream) gate. Thanks to being off the map all game, and nope-ing from enemies whenever Lukna wants, the sanity drop still doesn't prevent Lukna from wanting St. Hubert's Key.

Lukna uses Eldritch Sophist to cart cheap charges onto the sweet sweet Gate Box, but Alchemical Transmutation is useful enough on its own. Speaking of resources, one copy of Uncage the Soul will see baddies crying in clock chimes as Lukna slams down Power Word for free. With a solid plan, Living Ink could stand in for charge transfers too (up to two). Going with a Down The Rabbit Hole build would see this card making the cut here. Lukna will probably drop the second Sophist and Scrying for two Winds of Power with more XP, but we only need one charge a turn. The Sophist's sanity soak ensures even further that key stays in play. Power Word is the better target for XP in the early game anyways.

The errata for Scroll of Secrets ensures that Eldritch Sophist's secrets won't go to waste either. The Scroll of Prophecies would also accomplish this role, although Deep Knowledge lets Lukna play support from the upside-down.

With Key you still only have 4 Book so I'm unsure of what Pocket Telescope is really giving you here. What am I missing? :)

I'd cut the Scrying and the Scroll to include Mag Glasses to adress this problem, as I don't really see how these 2 further the deck's objectives.

@screamingabdab Thanks for the comment! I really wanted to show-case the ability for Luke to play mostly, if not solely, from the Dream-gate. Pocket Telescope allows Luke to investigate any location in play, without expending his one event per turn.

The 4 INT really does narrow down the reasonable targets for this ability though. City of the Elder Things comes to mind as a great example here as the telescope lets you see any location in play (without spending a clue like you'd have to do, and not on the same row/column), and then investigate them once flipped. However, most of those locations have 3 or 4 shroud.

I think there's a few ways to address those locations. Saving Drawn to the Flame and Read the Signs ensures coverage. Upgrading Power Word to the "Confess" ability would also help (keeping in mind you can only tick 10 boxes. If you want all three big abilities, you can only choice one other command).

Beyond the deck list, I would say it's worth exchanging the playset of Guts for Perception, just realizing that you would be more at risk from Mythos tests, and you wouldn't have the Guts to ensure Spectral Razor hits tougher enemies like Elites that can't be Power Worded.

The Seeker Tarot card is also a solid upgrade choice for this build!

I see the functionality of the telescope, but I don't see it yielding worthwhile results unless you get you Int score up. Seeker Tarot is alrite. Whitton Greene has been a favourite of mine with Luke as you start with a Relic in play and you're using both stats she boosts.

Whitton Greene is really great, especially since, I believe, you put Dream Gate into play as a location each time you use Gate Box, triggering her search ability. Combine that, Death • XIII, Hawk-Eye Folding Camera, St. Hubert's Key, and/or Magnifying Glass, and your Intellect can get high enough to really maximize effectiveness of Pocket Telescope.

Empirical Hypothesis can get you more card draw, without taking up a hand slot like Scroll of Secrets. The Research Grant upgrade doubles as a cost-cutter.

Astral Mirror lets you actually make use of all of those items, though in practice I haven't relied on it much. Just having either the camera or a magnifying glass out is enough to get him to where I want him.

My test of Power Word in a similar build has been a bit underwhelming. Until you add the two-commands-at-a-time ability, you sacrifice a lot of action economy to make it do its cool trick. Still a lot of fun, and situationally powerful.

@bernieschlotfeldt in regards to your earlier comment: Guts cannot be committed to Spectral Razor as it's not a Will test.

Bah can't edit. I meant @bojanglespanda.

I'm experimenting a little bit with your decklist: arkhamdb.com I cut the Transmutation and the Sophist, cause I feel like it is easier to lean into Intellect with the Allies and recharge the Dream Box with Winds of Power or Recharge. Also added String of Curses, cause I think that can be extremely helpful - and cool - in multiplayer. And with the Event package you got going there it is basically imperative to fool around with Astral Mirror and/or De Vermis Mysteriis. But you really made me look forward to try this out in a couple of weeks :)
