This is my deck for fighter William Yorick(with Bob Jenkins as investigator).

Item is the theme of this deck and the core cards are Geared Up, Backpack and Schoffner's Catalogue. The combo is classic in Edge of the Earth Investigator Expansion. When it comes to The Scarlet Keys Investigator Expansion, it becomes more powerful because of At a Crossroads. Keep At a Crossroads in opening Hand, then lose 1 action during next turn(which means the first turn), and draw 3 cards. The more cards in opening hand, the better we trigger Geared Up's forced ability. As for the lost action(s) by At a Crossroads, no need to care because we have already lost 3 by Geared Up lol.

There is some other combos in this deck:

  1. Runic Axe's Inscription of the Hunt and Safeguard trigger Track Shoes's ability then trigger Drawing Thin 's ability without taking an action.
  2. Use Act of Desperation to discard Runic Axe to kill an enemy, then trigger William Yorick's ability to play Runic Axe from your discard pile. This would replenish Runic Axe's charges.
  3. Resourceful add At a Crossroads to hand, you can choose one investigator to lose 1 action during their next turn, then draw 3 cards. However, you can discard Police Badge next turn to give them 2 actions.

I don't think the Geared Up & At a Crossroads combo works as you think. If you can't lose the action for At a Crossroads, then you don't get to draw the 3 cards.

@Seamus It does work, actually. You start with 3 actions normally, but if At a Crossroads is in your opening hand then you can use them to spend your actions for extra draw. THEN when your turn starts, the forced effect on Geared Up goes off, which then dumps the rest of your actions (and you cannot have negative actions, so bottoms out at 0). This is a very popular combo for Vincent Lee already (since he can take both cards plus Studious for an even bigger opening hand)

@HatfulBob Check the timing. At a Crossroads says "loses 1 action during their next turn". If you lost the action when you drew the card, your reading of it would be correct, but you only lose it during your turn, at which point you have 3 fewer actions. There's a discussion about this on the page for At a Crossroads.

Unfortunately, I believe @Seamus is correct, this combo does not work at the start of the game, note the ruling from "then":

'If the effect of an ability includes the word "then," the text preceding the word "then" must be successfully resolved in full before the remainder of the effect described after the word "then" can be resolved... If the pre-then aspect of an effect does not successfully resolve in full, the post-then aspect does not resolve.'

My understanding of this is that you would lose 3 actions on your first turn to Geared Up, then on your turn (because you picked the 2nd option from At a Crossroads) you would try to lose another action, Because you do not have another action, you cannot lose it. Since you have not fulfilled the first half of the "then" condition, you cannot benefit from the second half.

It could be the case that you can choose to lose more actions then you have, (I couldn't find a specific ruling about this) but I am highly doubtful of this being the case.

This combo works, according to the QnA in the At a Crossroads.

@Seamus QnA states as follow: once the investigator that’s losing 1 action is declared, that investigator should then draw 3 cards. That investigator does not need to wait until their next turn. It's noted that if Dilemma cards are drawn during mulgun, they should be resolved before the investigation phase, according to the QnA section within investigator box. In that time, the investigator has enough actions to lose because the force effect of Geared Up has not been triggered yet.

@elkeinkrad hmm, that's new since I built my Yorick deck. Good to know.
