This deck is part of a new series I'll be publishing: The Independent Faux Seekers Series.

The basic idea is that you might want to give yourself some extra challenge and play a game without any seekers (currently by far the strongest faction). The goal is to provide decks that accomplish two goals:

  • Allow a significant amount of clue finding
  • Allow the investigator to mostly take care of himself or herself

The second point means that these decks could be played solo or as an efficient part of a pair-play. Typically, it is most efficient for investigators to split up because otherwise you have to invest a lot of moves in each of you visiting all the locations.

Since Wendy cannot use Dr. Milan Christopher, you will almost certainly want to pair her with someone who can. Jim Culver is a possibility, but Roland Banks is a much more natural partner as he has more firepower than Jim.

In this deck Double or Nothings can be either used to double the power of a Fire Axe attack or to get double-clues from an investigation involving flashlight. It essentially acts as an ersatz Deduction in that case.

Do you really like newspaper? I haven't tried it, but it looks really bad.

It's marginal. On Hard Wendy tends to need some help investigating, and so it is useful to have 4 int boosts to increase the likelihood that you draw one. It is a cheap asset you can put out on turn 1 to prevent Leo from being eaten by a Crypt Chill or Beyond the Vale

Think about how many times during a campaign you have 0 clues:

The house always wins: 2

Extracurricular Activities: 3-6 depending on how long it takes you to find Jazz.

Miskatonic: 4-8 depending on when you find the Restricted hall and how often you reveal locations

Essex: 6

BotA: 2

U&U: 3 (depending on how you play it)

WDA: Several times... since you investigate to open locations

So you tend to get more uses out of the Newspaper than the flashlight, but you lose the nearly-automatic win you get on low-shroud locations.

All in all I generally would prefer to have a flashlight in my hand as Wendy, but you can only put 2 in your deck...

This is an interesting deck. Am trying out some Wendy builds and will have a look at newspaper, I can see your logic there.

On a small point, Lone Wolf is limited to one card per investigator. As is dark horse. So you will need to cut one of each of those, and you will have two more slots to use.

And as an afterthought, have you considered using unexpected courage instead of guts? Then you would have a bit more flexibility for pitching the cards to skill tests

@5ax0n, when a card says "Limit X per investigator" it refers to the number an investigator may have in play at one time. You may have 2 Lone Wolf cards and 2 Dark Horses in your deck; you just can only have one in play.

I think Guts is more useful to Wendy than packing 2 Unexpected Courages because Wendy really likes having cards in her hand to pitch for redraws.

Thanks for clarifying the investigator limit for those cards. You are absolutely right. I had it pinned as similar to exceptional or unique cards which they are not. Which explains why the arkham db allowed you correctly to put two of each in.

I've just tried newspaper in a Wendy deck and found it quite helpful, but I'm still hopeless playing her solo.

I also always forget about the redraw for those skill cards!
