This is a multiplayer deck designed to search for clues at a safe distance using Barricade, In The Know, and Deciphered Reality. The ideal teammate would be a generalist that leans towards combat, such as Jenny Barnes or Mark Harrigan. My brother and I played a similar deck to this through Carcosa using Sefina Roseau as the teammate and that worked really well.

STEP 1: LEARN YOUR SURROUNDINGS

Deciphered Reality and In The Know both require revealed locations, so your first goal in any given scenario is to reveal those locations. Dart around the map with Pathfinder and Shortcut as quickly as you can. Your teammate can also help with this step, so split up!

You can spend a few actions to search for some clues, but don't feel like you have to clear out the location before you can leave. If you have fieldworks out I would maybe even only spend one investigate action per turn, however I think fieldwork is better when you use it to boost your other stats.

If there are enemies in a location that you need to get through, use Hiding Spot to sneak past them. (hiding spot is also useful for the lvl 0 version of this deck when Barricade doesn't stop monsters from spawning)

STEP 2: CAMP OUT

Once you've visited all the locations pick one to hunker down in, ideally its something with a nice ability that you can trigger occasionally. Get to that location and Barricade yourself in. Save your copies of "I've Got A Plan" for if you have to kill a big elite.

Try and get your Analytical Mind in play during this step as well so you can support your teammate from a distance. (that's why we're playing Mihn)

STEP 3: TAKE AIM...

Use In The Know to collect clues from your Barricaded location. This is the whole point of the deck. Try and leave one clue on each location if possible. Use Truth From Fiction to reload your secrets if needed.

STEP 4: FIRE

Once all of the locations have only one clue on them use Deciphered Reality get the rest!...

Unless the test fails, in which case you have one more shot using a copy of Eidetic Memory.

STEP 5: Profit?

UPGRADE GUIDE: Organized by priority & in chunks of 5xp. To build the LVL0 version of this deck just replace the cards that cost XP with what you upgrade them from (see bellow)

1x Higher Education III 2x Seeking Answers > In the Know I

1x Mind over Matter > Deciphered Reality V

1x Barricade > Barricade III 2x Shortcut > Pathfinder I

1x Hiding Spot > Shortcut II 1x Resourceful > Eidetic Memory III

Beyond this, some other upgrades you could take are:

  • Deduction II
  • Arcane Insight IV (so you can lower the shroud of the location with the * highest shroud when playing Deciphered Reality if necessary)
  • Forewarned I or A Test Of Will I (I would lean towards Test Of Will I, or alternatively you could do Charisma III and Dr. William T. Maelson)
  • Another copy of Eidetic Memory III and Deciphered Reality V
  • Stroke of Luck II to basically guarantee success with your Deciphered Reality test.

I really like the idea of Barricading yourself and sniping clues from there...

I think you should mention how Deduction interacts with other cards (maybe add a rules or strategy section):

  • With In the Know it collects clues from target location
  • With Deciphered Reality it collects clues from your current location. Deciphered Reality also collects an additional clue from your location, as it does not replace the effect of the investigate test, unlike some other cards.

In a similar deck for Daisy Walker or Rex Murphy you could recharge In the Know two additional times with Enraptured.

Minh could also use Bait and Switch to move enemies away before Barricading herself. Although her low would be a problem...

Speaking of Rex Murphy, Dynamite Blast works wonders behind a Barricade and is ability gathers clues from a distance with In the Know. I think i'll build a similar deck for him. His ability makes him the better sniper...
