Roland Banks has heard that there's trouble going down in Arkham, and so he's off to figure it out. Cosmic horror is hardly the job for a simple cop with a gun (assuming he knows who to shoot with it), which is why the detective has been assigned to poke around the streets of the city. He's got a hunch, he's got deduction, and when he's not fighting off cultists and monsters with a machete he's using his flashlight and magnifying glass to uncover the truth.

It wouldn't be difficult to make Roland Banks a Guardian-heavy killing machine, but that's boring and not in character for our stalwart detective. Besides which, I don't want someone who has nothing to do but twiddle his thumbs when no monsters show up. Roland's a smart guy, he can carry his weight in the investigation.

You might be wondering why he has no guns. Well, that's because in this Magical Christmasland, firearms are highly restricted and not any old cop can get one. But also, guns have ammo, and ammo can run out. Machete? Never gonna run out of ammo. Overpower? Never gonna run out of ammo. Beat Cop? Extra damage is nice. Upgrade those guys at the first opportunity.

You'll notice the deck's a bit on the expensive side, which is why Emergency Cache is there to restock you and why you can look towards your skills to keep your card flow going. Whether you start with a cop or a dog, your allies are your greatest strengths. Use them aggressively.

And once you've got a Machete in one hand and either a Magnifying Glass or Flashlight in the other, you're set to go up against the worst the mythos has to offer.

I feel like Dr. Milan Christopher would be a better include than the Beat Cop. High cost but will pay for itself over time. The current main issue with Roland is until you get some xp, you have no accessory slot item.

Dr. Milan is certainly always tempting, but if Dav wants to go the upgraded Beat Cop route, why not start with them too? [Sure, sure, costs the same to add them later as it does to replace the 0xp version.]

Overall, I like the look of this deck; lots of early decks have tried to get as many toys in as possible. This is focused and should work well. Its biggest weakness is , particularly without the .45 Automatic spares providing extra agility icons. All being well, you can avoid the nasty treacheries though, or muscle through them.

Dr. Milan is pretty slick, to be sure, but I think the most effective ways to increase your damage output is with allies (either Beat Cop or Guard Dog). Given the ability and the Working a Hunchs, I think leaning more towards combat than investigation seems wise.

That said, this deck is absolutely getting Charisma as soon as humanly possible!

I played through the campaign with this deck, doing fairly well in the first 2 missions, but failing quick on the 3rd. A couple of thoughts: Flashlight + Magnifying Glass is a bit redundant, especially given hand slots come at a premium. Machete and Guard Dog were the best cards here. Elder Sign Amulet is probably the most important thing to pick up after the first mission, as it provides needed horror defense and it fills the unused accessory slot. One thing I noticed is that I kept having more resources than cards to spend them on. Maybe replace some skills with a couple of events? Also, I think that the skill cards you do have should be there to cover weaknesses as opposed to increasing traits you are already strong at.
