This is a mad, mad deck I have designed to play through a 4-player Carcosa campaign at Arkham Nights.

The idea behind this deck:

If you can get 6xp in Curtain Call, purchase 2x Blood Pact (which is not unique) for The Last King. In the Last King, Jim needs to make sure he gets a Machete (hence 2x Machete and Prepared for the Worst). Jim can use his Machete and Blood Pacts to kill the monster VIP's at the witching hour (the doom threshold is only 3, so this is often). Since Blood Pact is +3 Combat per test each, this sets Jim up to fight at 10 Combat and 2 damage a swing. All the doom on both Blood Pacts will get wiped off at the conclusion of the witching hour , so all Jim needs to do is rinse and repeat to kill each subsequent VIP.

Purpose behind some of the other cards:

  • Arcane Research x2: No investigator is better at healing horror than Jim. And in a 4 player setup with Dr. Elli helping him search for his trumpet, he should not have to worry about his sanity. Double Arcane Research will allow him to upgrade one Shrivelling to level 3 in the Last King for Free, then to Shrivelling lv 5 for free in Echoes of the Past, the other Shrivelling to level 3 in the Unspeakable Oath, and finally to Shrivelling level 5 by A Phantom of Truth. From there he has options to upgrade Rite of Seeking, Ward of Protection, and eventually Mists of R'lyeh.

  • Dr. Elli Horowitz is there to help find Jim's Trumpet and the Cthonian Stone. Both her and David Renfield function as decent meat shields.
  • David Renfield is a cheap health soak and combined with Moonlight Ritual, an ample source of income.

  • Fine Clothes for The Last King...'nuff said.

  • Holy Rosary/St. Hubert's Key: to boost willpower and investigation.

How about replacing dr. Eli with backpack? Deck has enough enough items to find 2-3.

@DjangoI had not considered Backpack. That might be another way to ensure he grabbed the Machete. My only qualms about getting rid of Dr. Elli is that she can also help Jim find his Trumpet and later on Grotesque Statues, and frees up a precious hand slot later on. Substituting out 1 Dr. Elli for Backpack may be a reasonable compromise. I don't know. But great suggestion!

I think Backpack is very powerful, so i try to include it in as many decks as possible, if enough items are available. It gets better if you add Scavenging and have reasonable chances of triggering it every 1-2 turns.

The 2 free flex slots from Dr. Elli Horowitz may allow you to add Scavenging? I'm not sure though, if the limited charges from Rite of Seeking justify it.

Not including Dr. Elli Horowitz may allow you to play Arcane Initiate, who is rather cheap, good for soaking damage/horror and has a strong effect. You should have enough spells for her effect, too.
