William Yorick is one of my favorite investigators from the Arkham Horror Files. So, when I saw he was included in the Paths to Carcosa deluxe expansion, I knew I had to build a deck and run him through a solo campaign.

This deck is geared for solo play. It's meant to kill what needs to be killed and find a way to get the clues that you need to get without wasting too many actions attempting futile Investigate actions. Also, I like to play fun, themed decks. The Lantern and Gravedigger's Shovel are too thematically good to not be included in the deck.

The Shovel and the Lantern are meant to be used and discarded to dig for those hard to find clues and kill that odd numbered enemy. Automatically getting a clue or a wound on an enemy can be a really powerful ability, especially at tougher difficulties where avoiding the Chaos Bag is a bigger benefit. Because of this need to use and recur, Dark Horse is not a good choice for William.

The cheap cost of Knife really aids the action efficiency of this deck. Getting that extra 1 damage for discarding the Knife becomes workable when you can recur that Knife for just 1 resource. The Machete is included as a crutch, but my few plays lead me to believe it may be upgraded out as the campaign goes on.

Beat Cop is always good and a good way to spend those experience points. Thanks Bury Them Deep! Bandolier is actually quite useful in this deck, since it's nice having the Shovel, Lantern, and a Knife/Machete in play all at the same time.

"Look what I found!", Evidence!, Lucky!, and Perception are all there to boost the big weakness of Wiliam, which is finding those clues. Add in some timely digging with the Gravedigger's Shovel, and you can get by.

Guts is needed to overcome a subpar Willpower. Vicious Blow is there for added punch against the tougher monsters or just for action efficiency. So far, Overpower seems unnecessary, so this might be a good one to cut and add in Unexpected Courage or Resourceful.

William take a bit of learning to play well. Setting up the recursion of assets requires careful management of your resources. Don't be afraid to pitch a powerful card early into a skill test. Drawing that Elder Sign token can be really powerful, if you can recur a "Look what I found", Lucky!, or Vicious Blow.

I'd still cut Bandolier, perhaps in favour of Fine Clothes which can sponge both damage and horror. But, if you do want to keep it then you might think about two-handed weapons such as Baseball Bat, it's cheap and Yorick doesn't care too much if it breaks.

From personal experience, while Yorick using a lantern might feel thematically appropriate, Yorick is probably one of the worst candidates for including it in his deck. Yorick's base lore is too low to take advantage of the Lantern's shroud reduction and Yorick is too good to need to spend an action on the Lantern's guaranteed damage. Ironically, the Lantern is actually best on investigators like Minh Thi Phan/Rex Murphy (who can treat it as an overpriced magnifying glass that can also do damage or non-combat investigators like Wendy Adams that can use Lantern to supplement their already poor damage. You'd probably be better off including a weapon like Baseball Bat or a handgun from the Guardian deck.

Thematically, I'm not a fan of Fine Clothes for Yorick. It would be a benefit during Carcosa, though. The timing on Baseball bat makes it less than ideal. When it breaks can be inconvenient, and the timing of recursion upon defeating an enemy means you can't get that copy back. At least, that's how I understand the timing structure.

@TelosaI think in a solo deck it makes some sense. Since I tend to go for thematic decks, I like to make it work. That's one of the nice features of a co-op game, you don't always have to optimize your decks.

Even with that, the Lantern works for William while Investigating. It adds synergy with both "Look what I found!" and Lucky! to help get clues that needed. In a multiplayer, non-thematic deck, I agree it's not the optimal card.

The discard ability on Lantern is still very useful. One less chit pull from the Chaos Bag is always welcome. It's certainly worth a great deal to burn away those annoying Whippoorwill enemies as well.
