TEACHER DECK?

The “Teacher Decks” are meant to provide an easy to explain decklist for an experienced player, with a full collection(up to the Edge of the Earth release), to give to a new player to show teach the game with.

Note that these decks aren’t super optimized or efficient like many of the decklists around here. That’s because it would defeat the point of these teacher decks. I’m just giving a solid platform to learn the game with.

It can be hard enough to learn the ins and outs of this game, lets not make it harder on ourselves by getting ahead of ourselves shall we?

These will generally include an overview of the deck, what it should be teaching, and some suggestions and thoughts on upgrades for the deck.

OVERVIEW

Sometimes you just need more money, to buy the shinies that will win you the game. Jenny is happy to oblige.

This deck will show what having extra resources can get you. Determine how to wisely spend your money to get ahead of the game.

UPGRADES

Start with Streetwise(3) and Savant(1), putting overpower(0) into the blank space left by streetwise(0).

Get Lola(3) next, ensuring a steady drip of clues, and getting your base intellect higher.

Then, take your pick of the big guns. The Typewriter is probably the simpler gun to start with though.

If you have a really strong clue gathering and lack some firepower, then go ahead and skip Lola and go to the bigger guns

  • Beretta M1918 (4)
  • Chicago Typewriter (4)
  • Lola Santiago (3)
  • Streetwise (3)
  • Another Day, Another Dollar (3)
  • Easy Mark (1)
  • Swift Reload (2)
  • Savant (1)

This list looks great! Do you think Followed might be a bit too much for people who are learning the game? I understand you want the deck to be able to Investigate (thus the inclusion of Deduction instead of Vicious Blow), but I think I'll use Intel Report rather, as it's a bit more thematic for her and simpler IMHO, specially considering that you are running Small Favor. Any oversight I might have had?

@fran

Small favor works because they will definitely doing many fight and evade actions on cards (particularly the guns) , adding a card to do that but slightly differently is fine.

We’re light on investigation actions though. There aren’t enough hand slots for big guns and flashlight/lockpicks, and there aren’t other events that do simple investigation actions. B&E is an oversucceed gimmick that combines actions, and pilfer felt too expensive (4+more to actually succeed).

I don’t use intel report because it doesn’t encourage basic investigate actions. Sure it’s “better”, but we’re not here for “better”. We’re here to teach the basic game flow, so I chose the card that did that. Followed is a bit too wordy for my liking, but I didn’t exactly have a lot of options. At least the effect is straightforward.

Switching followed for intel report undermines that, because then the only cards pushing basic investigation actions are deduction and perception, which aren’t enough IMHO. If I did a Trish teacher deck, I would be fine with intel report but not small favor for the same reasons. This is because she does lots of investigation and evasion actions, but not fight actions.
