This deck is inspired by the new mystic card St. Huberts Key. Normally Holy Rosary is a staple in a mystic deck with its passive bump to willpower but St. Huberts Key bumps willpower and intellect. This is great for Marie as she is strong in those stats giving 5/5/1/3. That means she is clue gathering like a seeker. She doesn't really need Rite of Seeking and its drawback hurts her more than others. The biggest criticism of would be cost but Marie is quite a Banker. Alchemical Transmutation is usually below the curve but Marie can leverage it quite well. As well David Renfield generates plenty of cash. She can pay for her spells comfortably forgoing burst economy cards altogether. With St. Huberts Key Marie does need to be sanity conscious so I included Clarity of Mind, again Marie can use its ability as an additional action, as well as Fearless. When she ugrades an Arcane Initiate she can lose a Clarity of Mind.

Fine Clothes is for some early campaign tests and a little protection. Marie needs to be able to defend herself and we have the ubiquitous Shrivelling. I don't think its enough and as soon as possible Marie should drop Fine Clothes for Song of the Dead. Another upgrade would be a Book of Shadows for a Clarity of Mind. Arcane Initiate triggers Marie's ability and gets Shrivelling out as well as Marie's signature card which we really want to see. Of course, you would mulligan for Shrivelling. Other targets to mulligan for would be David Renfield to trigger Marie's ability and start her bank otherwise Alchemical Transmutation and Arcane Initiate will do. Of course, St. Huberts Key is nice to see as it buffs Maries two strongest stats.

Looking at the off mystic cards Lantern may seem a weak choice but it strengthens Marie's clue gathering but, more importantly, gives her a way to get rid of rats and whipperpools early game/campaign. Shortcut is 'nuff said. As I am setting up for solo I chose working a hunch over deduction.

When experience is available purchase Blood Pact. Replace Fine Clothes with Song of the Dead. Upgrade Shrivelling, Arcane InItiate, Fearless. With Song of the Dead out replace Lantern. You can also go with Charisma for Alyssa Graham to lock down the encounter deck and further boost Marie's investigation.

Marie should be playing 4 actions a turn is solid action efficiency. The offset is accelerating doom counter but she is well set up to expoilt it with Moonlight Ritual and Mystifying Song, both spells. Arcane Initiate and David Renfield aren't too hard to get rid of in a hurry. When the doom threshold is going to trigger abuse it with Renfield and Blood Pact.

I like the deck and you clearly have put thought into your card choices. I think St. Hubert's Key is a great card that will find a home in a lot of decks, similar to Dark Horse, and this demonstrates how the card even breathes life into such a wonky character as Marie.

I raise concern over how devastating Baron Samedi is for you: he still takes your ally slot and boots your other allies to the curb when he appears. I think you leverage it well by playing allies who already generate doom and that you don't necessarily want to keep around, but I think you might want to place Charisma much higher up in your XP spending priority.

No love for Storm of Spirits? It seems like a solid extra attack that gives you an extra while you have an ally or access to Blood Pact. It would lessen the importance of Lantern.

There are a couple of other non- cards that you might consider; chiefly "I've got a plan!" as another alternative attack, and No Stone Unturned or Eureka! to help dig.

Thanks for a thoughtful review. I think a single Storm Of Spirits over a Hypnotic Gaze would be fine but I still like Song of the Dead as an early upgrade for its leverage off Marie's ability. Lantern is definitely for the first couple of games when Marie is quite vulnerable but suits her pseudo-seeker persona very well. But as the lanterns come out other possibilities open up. Eureka looks good as the deck is skill light. While not a counter to Baron Samedi the deck is primed to take advantage of Maries ability which is essential to using this investigator. If you overprotect Marie against this weakness then you reduce the effectiveness of the whole. Another nice thing about Renfield is he has that extra health other mystic ally's don't. Interested if others have a way for Marie to refresh Samedi to get rid of him faster.
