This is an introductory Akachi deck for players who have skipped The Dunwich Legacy. Please note that skipping Dunwich is not recommended, especially for other investigators.
I adore Akachi. She is one of the most flexible investigators in the game, and she makes a mean fighter. If you can get out Spirit-Speaker, she has near-infinite Shrivelling charges, avoiding what is usually the bane of mystics everywhere. You'll notice a distinct lack of Arcane Initiate and spell cards. That's because a lot of the traditional spell cards are in The Dunwich Legacy, and without more spell cards, Arcane Initiate is not as helpful, and is a liability with the extra doom.
You'll want to be using your neutral skills liberally, in order to dig for your Shrivelling. Uncage the Soul will be used for its two icons more than you use it to get out Shrivelling for free, but sometimes you get both in the same hand.
Upgrades
- Spirit Athame: this is my first upgrade, replacing Knife. Akachi is really meant to be a fighter with this deck, and Spirit Athame bumps her up to the same fight as Shrivelling, albeit for only one damage and an exhaust. If you really like the Knife, you can replace your Flashlight.
- Suggestion: You really need a second spell in her deck, and enemy management is so important for a fighter. Plus the attack cancellation is really nice. Replace Flashlight. Your seeker should be able to handle six extra clues by now.
- Ward of Protection Ward of Protection(2): Help your allies! In multiplayer this card is very important.
- Grotesque Statue: I would Arcane Studies. You don't usually have the resources to boost yourself because you're constantly replaying your spells.
That's only 22 experience. If you have enough experience left, I would recommend the Key of Ys with Relic Hunter, both as a horror soak and to boost your stats. You could replace either Holy Rosary or St. Hubert's Key.
Nice deck. Ive always been curious to see what a core +1 cycle deck would look like. A few thoughts incase they help:
I realise you have a limited card pool to play with but i would be inclined to get more cards with charges on them to help clear Angered Spirits. You also have Scrying and Alchemical Transmutation available within the pool and while they arnt exactly amazing, they can be turned into easy cash with Spirit-Speaker, and upgraded into things like Suggestion and Scrying (3) later in the cycle to have some spells with a little more utility.
You probably dont need Holy Rosary, St. Hubert's Key, loads of skill cards, and Arcane Studies if your only spell is Shrivelling. Even after Suggestion is added, Assuming youre playing on standard you`ll find your baseline 5 with 1 extra boost plenty in most cases. Certainly if you have all of those, Spirit Athame will give you limited additional benefit leaving the handslots for Flashlight and grab Grotesque Statue very early. The Grotesque Statue would also get you to 4 charges cards in the deck.
FInally can i suggest Arcane Initiate (if you are taking more spells). This gives you the best chance of seeing that Shrivelling early in the game, can find your Ward of Protection and offers a little horror soak for it too. Youre not using the ally slot yet afterall.
