Your doggy can eat 12HP enemy in 2
Do I have your attention?

Double or Nothing is goodness. So how do we break it? Well we have a bunch of new skills that want you to be a little mad (3 or less sanity). Our bluebird Pete is not that far from being there from the very start. You just need to forcibly make him look at something gooey and he's suddenly ready for mad skill drops. With a late addition of a friendly grandma to the cardpool, it's also time to mount the Dark Horse and ride to the land where only is a problem . For now I playtested just with Carcosa scenarios but I think that this type of build can play pretty well in Dunwich too.

Principles:

  • Resources? Bah! This deck is happy to have none of them. If you happen to draw Paranoia as your weakness, you should say "FTAGHN!"
  • Duke and Double or Nothing for time compression
  • The rest is a test. That you're nailing with high skill.

So how do you play it?

  • Mulligan - Leave Fire Axe and dig for Dark Horse
  • Setup - Pete comes with the setup already completed, so you just need to back your Duke with a strong poker hand, full of skill. The rest is optional.
  • Setup pt.2 - look for opportunities to gain 2 horror. Up the prio of it if you have 2 or more "crazy" skills and Double or Nothing. Treat enemies with sanity kicks as your bumper to success.
  • Mid game - ... just profit. YOLO for relevant or tests only (thanks, Capt'n Obvious). While doing that drop a Vicious Blow or any card-drawing skill. Laugh manically on success. Gold is a no-go, when you're on a horse. Save it for the poor.
  • End game - if you're out of cards than maybe play Madame Labranche. If she's already on board, then you'll obviously love those moments when she allows you to play Lucky! with no resources. And we know more than one scenario where getting the hell outta here might be a difference between life and death.

So how do you upgrade?

What to drop?

If this deck wants to have some horror on Pete wouldn't Fight or Flight work? It can be played with resource from Madame Labranche and boosts two stats for whole turn.

Makes one want to go after The Tattered Cloak if you're in the Carcosa campaign.

@Zuntir It's a question whether you like to pay for your boosts or just drop them from hand :) I was thinking about this card, but in the end I decided against it and I don't miss it.

@AndyB Oh yes. Generally Carcosa is very well suited for someone looking at a quick 2 mind wounds.

Loving the Double or Nothing action.

I am a bit confused with below statement though.

"-Endgame... ...then you'll obviously love those moments when she (Madam Labranche) allows you to play Lucky! with no resources."

I fail to see how you would make Dark Horse, Madam Labranche and Lucky! work simultaneously.

You need to be at 0 Resources when determining your modified skill value for Dark Horse and to have 1 resource when you need to play Lucky! should you have failed an important skill test.

Problem is there is no Player window to activate Madam Labranche in between having determined your Modified Skill Value and having determined the skill test will fail.

Am I missing something?

No, you're not missing something. I was missing something :) It's still feasible, though it needs you anticipate a failed test and activate Madame before pulling the chaos bag chit.

Thanks for the observation.
