This deck turns the wealthy preston into a super hero, even without spending money on temporary boots. It's built around Ornate Bow and utilises his available boosts to get to 6 and Leo De Luca to reload. This deck has no options to investigate so it's better suited for multiplayer and protecting a dedicated cluer.

Strategy

  • Get Ornate Bow and Leo De Luca into play and start killing things
  • When possible, get boosts into play
  • Backpack helps you find Ornate Bow, Lucky Cigarette Case and Track Shoes
  • Dig Deep boosts your or . Use it to avoid bad treacheries or against enemies, when their is too high
  • Dark Horse doesn't to much on it's own. When you have all other boosts out try to keep it online all the time, but before that save some ressources for Dig Deep, so you can avoid some treacheries.
  • Peter Sylvestre is there for when you run out of sanity or have Charisma
  • Save Lucky! and Live and Learn for treacheries and tests you don't want to fail
    • When attacking an enemy engaged with another player, Lucky! helps avoiding damage to them when drawing a token with a high modifier
    • Live and Learn helps you avoid an OA for reloading, when played on an attack
  • Track Shoes ability is nice to help another player in need

This is a really cool idea!

Why do you have 2x The Moon • XVIII if you don't want it in your opening hand? Seems like it should be a 1x in that case for sure.

Thanks.

Don’t get me wrong, agi boosts are important once you have the bow in play. But they are rather useless without. I wanted to emphasize that the bow is more important than getting the moon into play for free.

Great deck! I almost built the same one, so I have a coupe of questions:

Why not put Lola in the deck? It allows you to get some clues when you have nothing better to do. Especially with Leo and 4 actions, what do you do when there's no monster around?

Why 2xElusive? With high agility and track shoes, you have plenty to avoid enemies and move fast (you can test track shoes and double move even if there is no enemy!).

I debated but also put 2xFire Axe and only 1 backpack. The bow is more fun, but Fire Axe works really well with dark horse and family inheritance.

Also did you think about Waylay? Great to not waste a shot, or when you don't have your bow out.

Also I understand this is a dedicated fighter, but I always put "Look what I Found" in Preston, it is just too good to pass up.

I built the deck with minimum XP required to get it going and added upgrades that stay true to it's goal, monster hunting. But i added a small section for clueing in "Variants".

About Lola: Preston is very vulnerable to the encounter deck, so any version of Peter Sylvestre is great to ignore most horror sources. But i agree she's great, if you want to get some clues.

Elusive is an actionless teleport or "get out of jail for free", so i always include it if possible, no questions asked. But i agree the available options for evading and mobility make it redundant in many scenarios, so you're free to replace it (or Adaptable it in/out in big/small scenarios).

This deck relies on many assets, so it can be slow locating most of them. Cards like Backpack and Lucky Cigarette Case help you get them into your hand and with that, into play quicker.

I think preston is one of the few investigators who can rely on lot's of assets because he doesn't need to care about their cost, so i don't care about most events. I'm currently playing a similar deck to this one, but with Joey "The Rat" Vigil instead of Peter Sylvestre through RtNOTZ + Guardians of the abyss. I also have a lot more items then this one and it works really well. I never had problems with the extra ressource cost from Joey, in contrast it allows me to save money by playing assets exactly the moment i need them, instead of planning ahead.

Yes I guess there is some room to tinker with the deck, whether you want to be combat oriented or more flexible. Thanks for your great tips!
