I’ve been a massive fan of the game since release. I love building creative and powerful decks and have posted many of them. One deck archetype I’ve always wanted to try but haven’t is the “succeed by two” deck. We’ve all heard about it. And most of us have probably thought it’s a cute idea but not good enough yet. I definitely thought this way too...until we recently got spoiled Grisly Totem from the first pack of the upcoming cycle (https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/11/2/the-secret-name/).

This has now revolutionized the “succeed by two” deck especially in terms of the card Opportunist. You can check out the link above to see the card but essentially Grisly Totem is a 3 cost asset that lets you exhaust it to give a card you’re committing to a skill test another instance of one of its skill icons. So you can give your Opportunist another wild icon to help ensure you can succeed by two and get it back and keep reusing it turn after turn.

(NOTE: Lucky Cigarette Case in this deck is a placeholder for Grisly Totem)

Its obvious one of the first upgrades for this deck is upgraded Opportunist. This is the lynchpin of a succeed by two deck. Grisly Totem now gives us a nearly free Unexpected Courage every turn which is unbelievably good and adds incredible consistency to the deck.

So a huge focus of this deck and it’s upgrade path is ensuring we get to keep Opportunist around forever, continuing to essentially give us a Unexpected Courage every turn with the Grisly Totem. Luckily, we’ve got a lot of tools at our disposal to do just that:

I’ve taken this deck through the Dunwich Legacy and it was extremely successful. It’s an evade heavy deck but can kill many of the important enemies with Waylay. It can find clues and manage enemies extremely well as has proven to actually be one of the most consistent decks I’ve played. I believe Grisly Totem has finally made the “succeed by two” deck not only viable but actually extremely powerful and consistent. And maybe my favorite part of the deck is how fun it is to play! It’s a blast.

One notable exclusion in the list is Lucky Cigarette Case. The reason i didn’t include it is Grisly Totem also takes the accessory slot. I do end up getting Relic Hunter but it’s primarily to allow me to have Grisly Totem and Key of Ys on the table together.

Give the deck a shot and let me know your thoughts. It’s been an awesome deck to build and play. Game on
