Gimmick deck: a Guardian who doesn't want to engage. The Blackjack and the Springfield are among the least loved cards, partly because Guardians are used to taking all engagements. So here's a deck that doesn't want to engage. The more players to take engagements, the better. This will be much more viable (though not good by any means) when we get the upgraded Bandolier and Blackjack.

He doesn't work very well as the sole fighter, but if two players want to be Guardians, having one take all the unpopular cards will help avoid card shortages.

Venturer was meant to keep the Springfield loaded, but a damage-dealing ally would probably be better.

Be sure to put Prepared for the Worst on Stick to the Plan. This deck is very rough if you don't have the Springfield M1903 out.

Could also try this with Leo, who could take Stealth, another unpopular card, though he's still terrible at using it. Zoey could take Stealth and Survival Instinct both, but she prefers engaging.

Love the concept - not only is it fun to try and make the off-beat cards work, it's also practical in Arkham if you're sharing cards!

Couple questions:

  • Is this an XP only deck? In other words, do you think it could be made to work starting at 0 XP? For example, what weapons would this build go for?
  • Scene of the Crime seems like an off-theme include here. Any particular reason for it? I wonder if Hiding Spot might be useful instead with its two agility icons and general disengage. Or perhaps another Prepared for the Worst just in case the first one whiffs.

@OctoIt's centered on the Springfield M1903 so you at least need those eight. And Stick to the Plan is fairly important to get it moving quickly. Once you're over 9, you might as well keep going. But you could try it with a regular handgun and not just play to the theme until you can upgrade.

I agree that Scene of the Crime is a little out of place, and your suggestions are good ones.

Incidentally, I ran this with Minh Thi Phan in The Eternal Slumber. I figured they'd pair well since they both work best when with someone else. He did okay except that I didn't use Prepared for the Worst and didn't draw the Springfield M1903 until very late.

@CSerpentfair enough. Yeah, some decks don't really get their theme going until XP cards turn up, and they just have to start off a bit vanilla.

The .45 Automatic has an agility icon which is useful, but it's likely to clash with a competing Guardian deck for that card I suppose. With Mark Harrigan the .32 Colt might be something to consider - either might do in a pinch until you buy/draw the Springfield M1903.

Dynamite Blast, while pricey, is something that comes to mind for this deck as well actually.

Cool deck anyway.

@OctoGood suggestions, thanks! I plan to revisit this when we get the upgraded cards in Return to the Dunwich Legacy. Then, this deck might be legit!
