Edit: Some corrections thanks to aeongate.
Jim's innate ability means he can more confidently test flat rolls without wasting resources to pump will. Scrying Mirror provides a buffer on important tests, meaning you never overcommit just to avoid failure penalties, and Dark Prophecy improves odds further.
Scrying Mirror additionally allows Prescientto hit with 100% accuracy. Prescient recurs Spectral Razor or Ward of Protection as necessary, or Azure Flame if it runs dry or gets discarded. Defiance zeroes out any especially risky failures, and after upgrading to Defiance also synergizes with Scrying Mirror for perfect accuracy.
Scroll of Secrets drawn early helps to dig for important cards like Azure Flame, and drawn late becomes a cheap source of secrets to feed the mirror.
Jim's ability also takes the edge off Azure Flame, letting you treat elder signs as skulls to avoid the backfire.
Eldritch Sophist combos with the Scrying Mirror and Decorated Skull. He comes preloaded with extra secrets to recharge the mirror, and lets you use charges generated by the Decorated Skull to recharge Azure Flame. If you're killing enemies in one cast, as you commonly will with the upgraded version, the combo becomes a more awkward, 0-level Twila Katherine Price. In a multiplayer game, the skull can generate charges from your allies' actions as well.
Jim runs Sixth Sense instead of Clairvoyanceto save more resources for Azure Flame, and because its triggered ability can help overcome high shroud that he would otherwise have difficulty with. That means upgrading to get the +2 will isn't an immediately priority.
Fine Clothes (for Carcosa) are to be upgraded to Dayana Esperence. Dayana can host Spectral Razor to become a murder machine, or Ward of Protection to smooth out treachery-focused adventures. After purchasing Charisma, the Sophist can be used to double her charges. She and the Sophist also provide a complementary set of damage/sanity soak, useful when Final Rhapsody inevitably comes up.
This seems really fun! Nice work.
