Zoey from the future

Introduction

This deck was created for a run through of the Innsmouth campaign to serve as the main monster handler. We (group of three) tried this using Sister Mary (she sucks) and failed miserably in the first scenario. For the restart, i was looking for a solid proven guardian, as i didn't want to screw the campaign twice. But as it turned out most popular decks for Zoey are based on fairly old cards, so i made my own bringing Zoey to the future.

The following is meant as a mental note to myself. But for a companion app, we need a public link to the build. So this deck had to be made public. If you are reading this, and you are not me: go away!

Mulligan

You need a weapon. Drop the whole hand if necessary and keep the following in this order:

  1. Zoeys Cross
  2. Enchanted Blade
  3. Survival Knife
  4. Backpack

Upgrade Guide

  1. You need Relic Hunter as the first pick. Only with this card you can have her Cross and either Crystallizer of Dreams or Hallowed Mirror out.
  2. Backpack is the next important item. I didn't include a third weapon and picked a Backpack instead. It not only allows to search for the two weapons in the deck, but also for her signature item and the other two accessories.
  3. Taunt as Zoeys main ability triggers by engaging enemies. I decided to not go for the typical 4 action per round cheat as this is a quick action and i don't want to make another Charisma-Build.
  4. Enchanted Blade should be enough fighting power, even for the late campaign.
  5. Monster Slayer should be replaced by something more useful. Don't know an alternative just yet, but it needs to be an event.
  6. Physical Training Should be next on the list. I found out that she lacks resources and the level 4 version replenish itself.
  7. You're cheating with the XP! You shouldn't have that many at the end of a regular campaign.

Piloting Guide

Enemies

She will play quite simple. If you manage to get the Cross out most 1 - 2 hp enemies will go down without any effort. You should save the charges of the Enchanted Blade for bigger enemies though. If it means to attack twice: Do it, best you can do with your actions anyway. Best to keep an Vicious Blow on hand for the end game as well. You can play a #Survival Knife as a secondary weapon to voluntary receive some damage, as a method to squeeze out additional actions and a cheap two damage blow. Don't worry, she can handle the incoming damage.

Clues

The trick would be to have Grete Wagner to pick the occasional clue from high shroud places. Be not afraid to use her on lower shroud values as well. The deck contains enough healing power (up to 12 health) to keep her and you alive. So use this ability as often as possible. You can also use Get over here to move an enemy to a more suited location first, i don't think upgrading Grete is worth it. And if there are some impossible investigations, she can take an additional encounter. Which by the way could be played in conjunction with On the hunt. You can pick up 6-10 clues without investigating once.

Support

Some of her healing power could be diverted to other investigators. But when #Crystallizer of Dreams is on the table, she can commit additional cards not only to herself but also to other investigators. The deck contains many event cards for this purpose. The #Guardian of the Crystallizer shouldn't be any match for her. You should prefer Crystallizer of Dreams over the Hallowed Mirror early in the game, but play whatever comes first to your hand.

Encounter Deck

Despite her high willpower, she will struggle on agility checks and will have some trouble with the Encounter deck. Especially early in the game, you should manage the deck by using On the Hunt. Later you might have healing cards on hand or Grete Wagner can soak some damage. So if there are no monsters in play, use this to manage the deck. Also your job is to kill monsters, don't waste your actions on desperate investigation rolls. If there isn't trouble on the table, start some.
