It's a spooky day, and I felt like a spooky deck. So, what's more classic than Yorick burying things in the pet sematary, only for them to end up...

Well, in this case, it will probably turn out better for him than for the spooky things around.

Primary Role: Monster Fighter

Secondary Role: Clue Gatherer

Strategy

During your mulligan, try to keep a fight mechanism available. This means .45 Automatic, Enchanted Blade, Guard Dog, and Toe to Toe are all priority targets. In addition, keep Rod of Animalism if you happen to find it.

On your first turn, Short Supply dumps a lot of your cards into your discard. In the Thick of It/Versatile/Forced Learning does more of the same through the game. It's fine, you're Yorick - you can fish them back as soon as you beat something up. Beat up things, and use those victories to resurrect things as appropriate - Rod of Animalism is a good pick if you get it early or it gets tossed, helping to support the cost of constantly resurrecting Mysterious Raven and Guard Dog. Improvised Weapon allows for fights if they're dumped, and A Glimmer of Hope can effectively give you more fodder if necessary.

@BlueBarracuda I got to play with it some, though not a lot - other deck ideas ended up getting more play. I'd say long term, I'd consider the following:

  • I'd probably avoid going right for the Rod of Animalism until after the first mission, and use a couple of weapons in the meantime. I think this would work reasonably well in a 9 XP deck, but In the Thick of It doesn't quite give enough to have it all rolling right off the bat.
  • With that initial XP, I'd also probably consider what's possible with Backpack (2) and potentially even Ever Vigilant, to help save some resources and compress some of the actions necessary to play everything.
  • I'd likely drop Peter Sylvestre for the moment - the animals themselves give enough indirect ablation that having another source of Health and Sanity isn't as much of a priority as I originally estimated. If resources still felt very tight, I'd consider Madame Labranche instead.

Even with all of those asterisks, I'd say the deck is perfectly playable - but that's more because Yorick can do a whole lot with a halfway decent deck than because this deck has really 'gotten off the ground' with its initial XP.

I also meant to ask, I assumed you took them as physical trauma?

I don't recall, though I would recommend taking it as physical trauma. Guard Dog works better as a physical tank, and while Mysterious Raven can serve as a sanity tank, its alternate use as a clue fetcher hits sanity as well, so sanity damage is harder to deal with.
