The premise
Since the release of "The unspeakable oath", a lot of cards have been released that allow 3 out of 5 classes some control over the mythos deck. So i decided to create a series of "mythos duelist" decks, that focus on this idea. All of these decks require some play experience, as the player should have a general idea which encounter cards to counter and which are harmless.
Scooby Duke
The first deck is based on Scooby Duke. It's base is fairly standard survivor, based on Dark Horse, Fire Axe and Flashlight to deal with enemies and clues. Skill cards give an edge at harder tests and allow you to draw more cards to get important assets quickly.
Mythos duelist
The distiguishing features of the deck:
- A Test of Will allows you to counter a treachery at your location. This is very strong, because it can protect other players and may save their lives, but does not help on other players "peril" cards. But costs 1 XP each time. Cannot counter enemies.
- Ward of Protection, standard mythos counter since release of the game. May use allies to "pay" the cards sanity cost. Cannot counter enemies.
- Velma can spy the top mythos card and "remove" it for 1 doom. Use the phone or some smoke to ditch her, when the doom gets too much. If in 2-4 player game, she protects the first player, which is not necesarily you. Can "remove" all mythos cards, including monsters and "peril" cards.
- Fred can skip an encounter card for a clue. The uselullness of this abillty depends on your location and the encounter card drawn. In best case you're at a shroud 1 location and the ability is used on a card like Ancient Evils. On the other hand it's a waste when you're at shroud 5+ and the encounter card is like Swarm of Rats. Can ignore all encounter cards, including enemies.
Other Tricks
- Unique to this deck, Shaggys smelling salts allows him to re-use Velmas and Freds ability, if needed.
- The phone and Flare help you call Velma and Fred, if you missed them before the scenarios beginning. Remember you can put Scooby on the phone, you don't need to play an ally first.
- A Chance Encounter allows you to call Velma and Fred again, if they ditched you.
- Resourceful can increase your Luck or have more Chance Encounters.
- You may Scavenge for new batteries or new Axes and Pipes, if one broke.

Dark Horse > Velma > Fred > phone > A Test of Will > Ward of Protection > Fire Axe
Upgrades
- Scrapper to keep Dark Horse online without the axe
- Charisma to have both Velma and Fred at the same time, it's pretty cool to have both because you can decide after spying with Velma, how to deal the mythos. Or deal with more than one, when you draw two Ancient Evils.
- More Luck
- More Charisma
If you're fighting a lot, Aquinnah 2. If you need more horror soak, Peter Sylvestre 2 instead. Replace Resourceful or Scavenging.
