A Deck About Evading, Succeeding by X, and Mastering the Katana
The concept is simple:
Build around the mighty Katana — but it's a bit trickier than it seems.
The Core Challenge
- Lucius has a base combat of just 1.
- To trigger the Katana’s bonus, we need to succeed by exactly 2.
- Lucius can’t include Guardian cards.
The Solution: Clever Tools and Synergies To meet the deck’s unique demands, we turn to a clever mix of assets, skills, and deck tech. Worth mentioning:
- Versatile lets us grab the pieces we normally couldn’t access.
Precision Boosts These help us hit the sweet spot of succeeding by exactly 2:
- Eye of the Djinn + Occult Reliquary
- Artistic Inspiration
- Steady-Handed
- Inquisitive
- Book of Verse
- Daring Maneuver
- Maybe even a spicy Blasphemous Covenant
When the Math Doesn't Work Succeeding by exactly 2 is a tight window. If we miss it, we still have a powerful backup:
- Gray's Anatomy gives us a reliable damage boost, even when Katana’s effect isn’t triggered.
- The Raven Quill makes Gray's easier to find and use:
- No hand slots
- No AoO from using the tome
- An extra use of an exhausted asset — potentially Katana!
With a full setup, Lucius can swing at 8 agility, making the Katana’s attack a real threat.
Every Other Card? Mostly here for smoother setup:
- Draw, resources, asset acceleration, and minor healing (especially via Gray’s)
Special Mentions These support consistency and tempo:
It’s an unusual deck with a narrow combat window, but when it works — it really works. Sleek, stylish, and just a little bit sharp.
