I randomly drew Marie as my next investigator for our group's upcoming playthrough of Carcosa. This put me massively out of my depth as I'm a terrible mystic player, and my least favourite aspect of mystic is doom manipulation. Anyway, I've jumped in with both feet, and had a blast with this deck. Haven't tried it with Carcosa yet, but just successfully completed Dunwich with it.

I've tended to try to get either David Renfield or St. Hubert's Key in the opening hand, and then hopefully a Shrivelling. Dave is the main target for the doom, and can be removed at the right time by Stray Cat, Calling in Favors, a well timed Attack of opportunity, or neutralised with Moonlight Ritual!

Scrying is really useful, (especially if it's your extra action), and I've tended to use it to avoid Baron Samedi, who can really mess up your game.

Cards like "Not without a fight!" and Eureka! are in there because they're personal favourites.

Doom manipulation

As I said, I was never a big fan of this aspect of the game, but love it now I've tried it. In the whole Dunwich campaign, I only mucked things up once and prematurely advanced the doom, and that was only because I miscounted the doom on the agenda card!!!

I think you just have to go for it, otherwise she's nothing special, and don't forget go completely mad during the twilight round. Although do keep an eye out for Ancient Elvis. He can completely ruin your plans!!

It is worth noting that on solo, if you have a reasonable amount of spell actions available to you, that losing a round through a stray doom you couldn't clear is not as bad as it might at first seem. If you manage to get three turns worth of extra actions and lose one round through doom, you've had the same amount of actions but 1 less mythos phase.

Also Mystifying Song is such a powerful card! It makes getting rid of Baron Samedi way easier for a start, but if you combine it with Ward of Protection, it has the same effect as The Gold Pocket Watch…….sort of.

Upgrades:

Blood Pact is a must and turns Marie Lambeau into a 4 combat investigator in the twilight round.

Arcane Research, saves a ton of xp over a campaign as you'll want to gradually upgrade the Shrivellings, and maybe Mists of R'lyeh

Then I've been upgrading a Moonlight Rituals and Stray Cat to Sacrifice and Time Warps.

Charisma is an interesting one here. Works brilliantly in the Dunwich cycle, and takes half the sting out of Baron Samedi, but it can remove one of the methods for removing David Renfield.

Feedback very welcome!
