Sometimes, it helps to have a reminder that no matter how bad things can get, people will still do their best to handle whatever comes and pull through.

I wanted to add a small contribution to the effort from Doobies here. This is still an early stage of the deck, and I plan to continue refining it as I experiment with it as I progress. I'm still a relatively new player, so I imagine there are plenty of improvements that can be made. I wanted a reasonable compromise between the theme and effectiveness, and while this might have a few awkward points, I hope that it's at least reasonably playable.

Notable Potential Adjustments:

  • -Fire Extinguisher: While the Fire Extinguisher is the best fit for fire fighting, it is not an ideal item for other purposes, and will not be available right off the bet.

  • -Painkillers/Smoking Pipe: These are more reactive options, and may warrant replacement with events or skills that can give you a more immediate boost.

  • -Perseverance: Perseverance can be a bit tricky to use if you're limited on resources.

  • +Meat Cleaver: If you're looking for an alternative weapon, the Meat Cleaver is a good initial option, and works better when dealing with less flammable threats.

  • +Rabbit's Foot: While Rabbit's Foot can compete with Cherished Keepsake for the accessory slot, it can also give you a slight boost while you're struggling through the early game.

  • +Drawing Thin - If you are not playing with the Taboo List, Drawing Thin will be an initial option for you. It is every bit as powerful as its spot justifies. You should probably use Rabbit's Foot if you're making this change.

Upgrade Recommendations:

  • +Five of Pentacles - Two copies should probably be your first purchase, seeing as this increases your health and sanity, meaning you'll actually have an increased capacity in exchange for this.

  • +Anna Kaslow / Ace of Rods: Yes, Anna is probably a bit excessive. However, getting two copies of Five of Pentacles is an incredibly powerful options for versatility, and Anna can still give you another chance at getting it in your opening hand. Ace of Rods is an optional addition if you're using Anna Kaslow anyways, it doesn't hurt to have the extra tarot option.

  • +Drawing Thin: The earlier comment in the adjustments section still apply here, even if you have to pay the corresponding cost.

  • +Devil's Luck / I've Had Worse: While Perseverance is a reasonable option, the cost for it means it doesn't mesh as well with Dark Horse. Devil's Luck allows you much more safety during encounter's, while I've Had Worse gives you a bit more to use when using a Fire Axe, or when you need to play a card.

(Optional) Multiplayer Adjustments:

  • -Flashlight: The Flashlight is important for investigations when you're alone. However, if you're with others, they can focus on more difficult clues while you worry about other threats.

  • +"Let me handle this!": Early on, you need to take damage. Encounters often end up doing some type of damage.

  • +Solemn Vow: Early on, you need to take damage. This lets you shift someone else's damage to you.

(Optional) Multiplayer Upgrades:

  • +Stand Together: You'll be with others in order to use your other specific cards. This just gives you an additional option to help the group, especially early on.
