Hello Guys,

This is my first published deck and I am also not an native English speaker, so don't be to harsh on me.

Just wanted to share my take on the challenge scenario "Read or Die". I actually used the altered version of Daisy including her advanced bag as well as her advanced version of the necronomicon. I played through the scenario two times, doing pretty decent on standard difficulty with this standalone version. Following are some important thoughts that went through my brain when constructing and playing.

Also I hope I am not doing wrong assumptions and i played the scenario correctly. Else the deck probhably needs to get adjusted.

Lets start with the Books

When it comes to the choice, how many and which books to include in the deck, I decided to go for a variation of different tomes. Because you don't get a free action each turn anymore with the new version of Daisy, auto includes like Old Book of Lore or Encyclopedia are not as good anymore. This is why i tended to include more situational tomes like Otherworld Codex and Scroll of Secrets.

When it comes to the amount of books you need I made the following calculation:

  • With 4 tomes out, you have a parley test of 5 against 10, thats pretty hard to pass.
  • With 5 tomes out, you have a parley test of 6 against 8
  • 6 Tomes out makes it a 7 against 6 parley test.

So to have chance without having to commit multiple Inquiring Mind and other boosts, you want to have at least 5 books, more 6. This meant, at least for me, that i want to include at least 7, eventually up to 8 books in the deck.

How to get to your books

First things first, the deck runs close to no clue gathering improvements at all. When playing solo, like me, i haven't felt the need to improve my odds because their are some really low shroud locations, where you can perfectly gather clues without improvement and you don't really need that many clues at all.

Getting to your book in your deck was the bigger challenge for me. For this I included the lovely Mr. "Rook" and Backpack, the latter one because I hate No Stone Unturned and it works just better in this scenario, especially with Segment of Onyx. Because we are digging so much through our deck and the deck starts really small, i also choose to include Astounding Revelation for resource engine and again Segment of Onyx, they are so much fun. Digging with Old Book of Lore is also perfectly fine.

Other thoughts

  • To get to 6 tomes, you need Dr. Henry Armitage and your bag. However I stayed away from Abigail Foreman and Dr. Elli Horowitz which cheat you additional handslots. While the first one needed exp which I rather invested in tomes, the latter one only works with Pnakotic Manuscripts which for me sounded like "if all stars align perfectly". 6 Tomes in play is perfectly enough to get the parley.
  • Turns out tomes are pretty expensive... Therefor i included the Astounding Revelation, Crack the Case and the upgraded version of Old Book of Lore which should be enough resource gathering.
  • I switched out Shortcut because i havent felt the need with "Jazz" Mulligan ability. Maybe i misread his ability, but for me moving to a location up to 3 connections away meant basically teleporting anywhere you need, right?
  • Except the challenge enemy and some Whippoorwill, no enemy in the scenario has hunter, at least I think i havent drawn one, so I havent felt the need of killing anything. Just spent the clue for your tome asset and evade everything with Mind over Matter and Pendant of the Queen.
  • For controlling the encounter deck in the early phases with your low , i included the typical mystic stuff of manipulating everything + a copy of Quantum Flux. This helps you if you are forced to discard your tomes somehow or if Beyond the Veil shows up.
  • I am searching for a deck to include Backpack and i think this is the one. Not only do you get to your tomes, it works with the Segment of Onyx and your Daisy's Tote Bag on top of the Astounding Revelation. I love it.

Thank you for reading and gimme a feedback.

Used this successfully. Had Ashcan Pete as her offsider, who nearly ran out of cards - not a good thing for that game. But this Daisy performed marvellously and carried the day - although it could have gone badly very easily. Thanks for posting this.
