Norman let the dogs out

img.png

Introduction

Genuinely one of the most broken cluers I have seen. The core of the deck is combining Summoned Hound with Foresight to avoid the negative Unbound Beast. Since Norman can see the card coming before he would draw it, he can play foresight and avoid the bad dog entirely. This alone makes him one of the best users of the dogs in the game.

However, we add on the secret boost of Inspiring Presence combined with Written in the Stars. By using Livre d'Eibon to put Inspiring Presence on top, we guarantee it will trigger. Once we do, our dog can continue testing again and again until he fails...forever.

Upgrades

Hopefully, your first upgrades should come as a pack with Versatile, Summoned Houndx2, Foresightx2, & Inspiring Presence for 6xp. By adding all of these in one go, it will allow you to add the required 5 cards of versatile.

After that, it's just 6xp more to put in the Astronomical Atlasx2 and a further 3xp three for Charisma. Note - before the Atlases, you can just run Magnifying Glass

Part of the appeal here is that the full combo is online so early. Further upgrades are dealer's choice, though Deny Existence is nice.

Running Tips and Pitfalls

I would recommend holding back playing your dogs until you have a Foresight in hand. For that matter, I wouldn't play both dogs without two foresights in hand. Asking for trouble otherwise.

Pick your moment for the big combo. You will likely only trigger it once a game.

The wombo combo here is stopped either by failing tests or by running out of tests to take. Where convenient, I would hold my Shortcuts back until the combo is active and try to start the combo at the beginning of turn. That way you have the maximum number of moves and resets to get to clues on tons of locations.

On that note, this deck may be less dominant in Hard or Expert modes. The dog's tests come in at a base 5, 6 with Inspiring Presence, and 7 with St. Hubert's Key in play. That's a lot, but can still be stopped more often by a nastier chaos bag. You can wait to try a double Written in the Stars for the combo if needed. If you do, be careful using Perception or Eureka!. If you end up reshuffling your deck, then Inspiring Presence will no longer be in the discard pile and Written in the Stars will cease working.
