For the deckbuilding exercise on reddit.

  • What role is the deck? Clue gatherer, Fighter, Support, a little of everything?
Fighter with clue gathering as a side option.
  • How many players is this deck for?
    Multiplayer, at least 2.
  • Which campaign is this deck for? Are there any card choices specific for that campaign?
    Dunwich
  • Does the deck use a limited card pool (not everything released)? Whether it's because you don't own everything, or self imposed limitations.
Self imposed restrictions: No Dr. Milan Christopher, No Machete, No Key of Ys. Includes everything up to City of Archives, not including novellas.
  • If it's a multiplayer deck: Who would the deck like to be paired with? Which cards do you expect them to run that will help you specifically?
Roland would prefer not to share a card pool with a Seeker, so ideally a clue gatherer from another class, Maybe Sefina with Lockpicks and Lola Santiago.
  • What is your Mulligan strategy?
Since the deck is a dedicated fighter, I'll keep Guard Dog, Prepared for the Worst and any weapons. Everything else is chucked. If I already have a .45 Automatic or Roland's .38 Special and a Guard Dog, I'll be looking for Logical Reasoning.
  • How do you intend to deal with the major challenges of the campaign?
Roland will want Well Prepared and Physical Training before Undimentioned and Unseen to be able to hit Brood of Yog-Sothoth.
  • Are there any treachery cards you're particularly wary of?
Frozen in Fear and Rotting Remains are not most ubiquitous weak points for Roland.
  • What is your upgrade path? Priorities in general, priorities to get before a specific scenario?
The first objective will be to get Beat Cop as it makes all our weapons better replaces Art Student, then we'll want to get better weapons. I have yet to play it, but M1918 BAR seems like a very versatile weapon. Even then, I'd probably prefer Lightning Gun if I have the XP for it. Replacing Survival Knife. Upgrading to .45 Automatic Is a good idea, but not very urgent. If you have access to Dr. Francis Morgan then Charisma may be a good choice. Sometime before Undimentioned and Unseen I'd need to get Well Prepared and Physical Training, allowing Roland to boost his will to a place where he can kill Brood of Yog-Sothoth You can dump some skill cards for those. If you have leftover XP, replacingShortcut with Pathfinder can be a boon. Consider Extra Ammunition if you got Lightning Gun or Custom Ammunition if you got M1918 BAR. Quick Study is another interesting option that I have not tested. Dropping a clue while fighting then picking it back up with Roland's ability should work great. Lastly, you probably want to replace Smoking Pipe with Elder Sign Amulet to keep Roland Sane.

I think most card choices are fairly obvious. The restriction on Machete means I have to resort to weaker weapons. I chose Knife over .32 Colt because Roland's value means he'll even have a hard time hitting a Acolyte with it.

Prepared for the Worst to help find the better weapons.

Art Student mostly for the sanity soak, but getting a clue from a high shroud location can help speed up the game.

Roland has poor economy, so I chose to run 10 skill cards. Take the Initiative is mostly to deal with the encounter deck. Logical Reasoning is for getting rid of Frozen in Fear.

A single copy of Survival Knife because while it is a good off hand weapon, I'll never want two, unlike all my other weapons.

Trusted allows the Guard Dog to soak and deal more damage. Don't be afraid to let your allies die, they are there for that.

Smoking Pipe allows to heal 3 sanity for 1 action over three turns. Roland shouldn't have problem taking the damage himself, but if he has an ally out, the ally can take it for him. It also protects your more expensive assets from Crypt Chill.
