By request, here is a level 0 version of Spooky Mandy, before she's collected her spectral allies and mastered her researching skills!
You can find the upgraded deck, complete with write-up and thematic vignette, here: https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/32297/spooky-scary-spectral-friends-1.0
At level 0, Mandy is a bit more of a traditional cluever and less of a combo deck. This level 0 version is designed for 3-4p, which means Mandy can focus entirely on clue-gathering without worrying about combat/evasion.
Her main goal will be to get an Old Book of Lore into play and begin searching her deck for Astounding Revelations and Occult Evidence. She can clue-compress using Deduction, Winging It, and Fortuitous Discovery while working to translate her Grimoires (a project she can boost using Tempt Fate and Deep Knowledge).
This deck is generally a solid cluever, though not nearly as exciting or unique as the upgraded version. Once she gets even a small amount of xp, however, she grows in leaps and bounds as her researching improves and, more importantly, her spectral allies and powerful tomes grant her unparalleled auto-clueing!
UPGRADE PATH:
2x Practice Makes Perfect –> 2x Guided by the Unseen (top priority)
2x Cryptic Grimoire –> 2x Cryptic Grimoire (second priority once translated)
1x Encyclopedia, 2x Backpack –> 3x Surprising Find
2x Deduction –> 2x Stirring Up Trouble (can be bought before the Grimoires if you're having trouble translating)
2x Deep Knowledge –> 2x Favor of the Moon (can be bought sooner in a more heavily-cursed party)
2x Perception –> 2x Fey
Add 1x Blasphemous Covenant (like Favor of the Moon, can be bought sooner with more curses in the team)
1x Old Book of Lore –> 1x Death • XIII
1x Old Book of Lore –> 1x In the Know
1x Dream-Enhancing Serum, 1x Winging It –> 2x Glimpse the Unthinkable
2x Burning the Midnight Oil –> 2x Expose Weakness
@elsewhere Given your comments about this deck not having it's signature style until you've spent your first (prioritized) XP, I am thinking I'll jump the queue by deploying In the Thick of It to just go ahead and start with one of my copies of Guided by the Unseen. I will take two mental trauma putting me at 6 & 6 (for use in 4 person multiplayer). And obviously spend my 3 (deck creation) XP on Guided.
Do you see any major issues with this strategy? I'm thinking the loss to sanity will not be crippling. What about the 2nd copy of Practice Makes Perfect that is lost? Tempo killer or no big deal?
Thanks!
