Well, gee, ain't that a pile of cards.
The goal of this experimental deck is to see if Dexter is as good a user of the card Profane Idol as I think he might be. At level 0, your main goal will be interpreting secret prophecies (or just asking your assistant to find a Charm) in order to find the idol that will give Dexter nearly limitless uses of his ability (by discarding the profane idol instead of letting it get defeated) and horror soak (by playing the idol again from your discard pile).
Use your newfound idolatry to discover a wealth of knowledge beyond your wildest dreams! Or if you're feeling a little sore, your idol makes any medicine you take even healthier! Take a trip around the cosmos without worrying about losing your luggage because the idol is bound to you now as long as you want it.
Now I built this deck as a cluever, but it would likely be just as effective as a fighter deck. I went with cluever, since Dexter's precious idol takes up the same slot as that one card that all mystics generally want, and am, in general usually a little less stressed about my stats when getting clues vs fighting. If you want to go fighter, I would just swap Clairvoyance for Shrivelling, Read the Signs for Spectral Razor and, for Sixth Sense, I'd do something crazy like Breath of the Sleeper.
Upgrades: I've included 29 XP worth of upgrades that I think might be good here, but I'm just pulling this out of thin air and have no idea if it will be good! That said, here's how I think I'd upgrade.
First 7 XP:
"I'll Pay You Back!" & 1 Scroll of Secrets - > Cheat the System
Both Sixth Sense - > Divination(1)
This first batch of XP is all about shoring up your economy and turning Sixth Sense into Divination (which, like Mists of R'lyeh, can discard your idol if it gets stuck in your hand).
Next 6 XP:
This one's easy, just upgrade your Clairvoyances to Level 3.
Now you can effectively get clues without that one card that all mystics generally want.
Next 6 XP:
Time for Drawn to the Flame to become Under Surveillance
And upgrading your Mists to Level 2
With this batch of XP you'll start to feel a little safer going off and investigating without back-up. And Under Surveillance is a tactic so you can play it with Sleuth!
The last 10 XP is just the gravy of getting your Mists and Divinations up to Level 4, at this point (I think, again this is an untested concept) you'll be cruising!
