Introduction

Hey guys this is a deck idea I 've had about Zoey Samaras and I'd like to share! As said in the title, it covers the "flex" slot of a group, but leans a bit more towards combat. I'm not sure if it would work well in solo, but you can try it.

Let's see the upgrades before we talk further about the deck:

(Essential)

  1. 2x .45 Thompson --> 2x .45 Thompson (3)

  2. Charisma

  3. 2x Dodge --> 2x Brother Xavier

  4. 2x "Let me handle this!" --> 2x Well-Maintained

  5. 2x Guard Dog --> 2x Agency Backup

  6. Stick to the Plan (Stick Prepared for the Worst, Emergency Cache and Act of Desperation)

(Icing on the cake)

  1. Keen Eye

  2. 2x Enchanted Blade --> 2x Enchanted Blade (3)

  3. 2x Vicious Blow --> 2x Vicious Blow (2)

  4. 2x Emergency Cache --> 2x Emergency Cache (2)

This deck focuses on accumulating heavy loads of money in order to pay for expensive assets, like Brother Xavier and Agency Backup. The backbone of the economy is .45 Thompson (3) along with Act of Desperation and Well-Maintained. These 3 cards, along with Zoey Samaras's ability, will allow you to gather a lot of resources over the course of the scenario, making paying for the aforementioned assets a trivial task. You just need to draw enemies!

How the deck works is simple: Play .45 Thompson, unload it on enemies, use Act of Desperation and Well-Maintained to get your initial investment back while returning the .45 Thompson back to your hand, replay it and repeat. You can skip playing Well-Maintained if you have the second copy of .45 Thompson. The Well-Maintaineds basically act as its 3rd and 4th copies. With this engine, you will always have the .45 Thompson as your main weapon, by refunding its cost every time you need to play it again and you can use the resources gained from it to pay for other assets. But even without Act of Desperation, sometimes, the .45 Thompson's self-refund mechanic can be enough for your economy to flow at a desirable level. Stick to the Plan helps a lot here, as, with it, you get one copy of Act of Desperation in your hand from the beginning of the game.

Getting clues

Sixth Sense is your primary clueing tool, at least early in the campaign. It's boosted by Brother Xavier and it's one of the reasons I chose to include this ally in the deck. With him, you can investigate 3-or-lower shroud locations relatively safely. You also have Scene of the Crime to help you with higher shrouds and, later, the addition of Agency Backup will make things easier. Inspiring Presence also works incredibly well with Sixth Sense + Agency Backup, as the icon allows you to chuck it on an investigate test, allowing you to potentially grab 3 clues in a single action.

Other Cards

Enchanted Blade basically serves as a backup weapon. Your main weapon is .45 Thompson, as said earlier. Early in the game it will do, but don't delay playing the .45 Thompson too much. You also have Prepared for the Worst to help you find it faster. Sleight of Hand is of great help here, as it can help you deal with a tough situation if you don't have the money to play the .45 Thompson yet, while giving you money in the process, which will help you play it later. Calling in Favors is of great value in this deck, as it can potentially save you 4-6 resources, by getting you another ally from your deck and playing it cheaper, while "refreshing" the one you had in play for later use. Brother Xavier, except for boosting , is also great soak and his damage dealing capability helps a lot. If you play him early though, you don't want him to die, as you want to CiF him into Agency Backup (talking about value...).

There's also a potential combo with .45 Thompson, Sleight of Hand, Act of Desperation and Well-Maintained:

If you don't have the money to play the .45 Thompson, Sleight it, attach Well-Maintained on it and play Act of Desperation. This will get you out of a tough situation, while giving you the money to play the .45 Thompson next turn. A little janky, but if you happen to be in a tough spot and have these cards in your hand, you can do it. Well-Maintained is also not necessary if you have the second copy of .45 Thompson.

Conclusion

In the end, I think this deck is a ton of fun to play and it can be very efficient if things go your way. It relies heavily on certain cards to work, but on average, it should work out well. If you try this, let me know how it went. Thanks for reading and... that's all folks! :)

I am going to try this deck out. I am playing with this and my buddy is running a Money Preston deck. We will see what happens.

Well, first outing did not go great, but that was due to card draw. We started over with Night of the Zealot, got to the end, when the priest popped, and I was able to put 8 hits into him before I died (from horror of course), but Preston didn't have any of his pumping cards out to help out and the Priest wiped us out before we could finish. Might pick up a elder sign amulet, or possibly get Xavier first. Only have 4 xp to play with.

Well, 4 XP is somewhere to start with. I suggest you grab an upgraded Thompson and 1 Bro X. Do you plan to carry over by the way? The NotZ campaign doesn't offer enough XP for this deck to show its true potential.

I picked up the Thompson and Bro X. We will probably carry over. Even if we fail, we might want to. This game, for us, is more like Money Preston is the star and Zoey is just going to be the bodyguard. If I get much more mental trauma, I might just rush the Bro X and Agency. I will keep updated. Play is Wednesday. The cultists shouldn't be too much problem, outside of wolf man possibly.

Take care, that's a tricky scenario! I'll be waiting for the news! :)

@matt88 Well, it went pretty bad. Got stuck in the forest where you needed a book test to get out. None of my damage cards came out. Was just all around bad. Might come back to her when we move on, but buddy wants to run NotZ one more time, so I am switching to a Harrigan deck I am creating that is just straight combat, no clues or anything. We'll see.

@Cyclopticox You must have been really unlucky to not find any of your weapons. Also that location is really horrible. I hate it. If your Intellect isn't high enough you can stuck there like forever. Sounds like you had a bad experience overall. Too bad the deck didn't work out overall.

I put Teamwork instead of Scene of the Crime because I ended up having tons of resources and no use for them and like that, I could support the whole team. Is there a way to convert resources to damage?
