Here’s a deck I’m plotting for a future run through Dunwich Legacy. I’m seeking general advice on how to improve it. I’m especially wondering about the 5 splash cards. Should I throw in Lone Wolf (popular, but possibly overkill)? Or Scout Ahead (improve odds on chasing down target of Smite the Wicked)? Or something else I overlooked?

So I love Nathaniel Cho's suite of cards... but being restricted to only Guardian cards is just boring. The solution to this problem is simple: run Zoey but with most of Cho’s best cards!

This Zoey deck lets you splash other classes and have an even better economy! Though there’s always a trade-off, and here it’s giving up on Cho’s innate power to heap on bonus damage.

I expect that this deck will require virtually zero setup to get things going, as it has very few Assets.

Zoe is Great at Finding Clues [*offer applies only to clues on the corpses of her enemies]

There's no way around Zoe's low . So this deck doesn't try to make many Investigation actions... but it can grab a handful of the hardest clues via the testless actions on Grete Wagner, Evidence!, and Scene of the Crime.

A-Hunting We Will Go!

On the Hunt helps your party in many ways: no action cost, you’ll usually draw an enemy instead of a treachery from the Encounter Deck, it gets you a free engage against Aloof baddies, AND it thins out enemies from the Encounter Deck. Your bookish fellow investigators will thank you. Furthermore, having an enemy at your location provides the necessary trigger for the aforementioned testless clue cards! In a perfect world you 1: get to a location with clues 2: have one of the clue-finding cards handy, and then 3: trigger On the Hunt.

Down the Rabbit Hole amounts to 2 free XP for upgrades after every scenario

Spend on two of the upgrades listed below before adding new cards between scenarios. If you upgrade 2 cards each opportunity then you should gain 14 discounted cards over the course of a typical 8-scenario campaign

Down the Rabbit Hole makes these new cards slightly more expensive, so save up XP and don't buy these until after your 2 free XP are used:

  • 7 XP Stick to the Plan, which activates the Astounding Revelation before turn 1 of every scenario :)
  • 2 XP Ace of Swords, swap for Dodge (Counterpunch should be upgraded around this time)

Please comment below with ideas for improvement, thanks!

Looks like a fun deck. Enchant Weapon doesn't work on Boxing Gloves, since the reaction requires using a Fight action printed on the attached card, which Boxing Gloves does not have. I'd definitely also throw the second copy of Stand Together in there. It's a great Spirit card to pull from Boxing Gloves and Zoey could probably use the extra card draw.

Also IMO you need more sources of +damage, so Monster Slayer (0) is probably necessary. I could see Toe to Toe as well, possibly. Right now your only ways of dealing extra damage proactively are One-Two Punch and Vicious Blow (and later Counterpunch). Plinking away with 1 damage per action just isn't enough for a primary fighter. Spectral Razor is a very cool Zoey offclass card that could also help fill this niche with its 3 burst damage, though unfortunately it is not a Spirit card.

Thank you, yes Enchant Weapon doesn’t work.

As far as extra damage goes don’t forget the signature item Zoe’s Cross, usable once per turn. Even so Monster Slayer is worth another look…

What about In the Thick of It to start with your tarot ?

With the spare xp On the Trail is an interesting alternative to Scout Ahead (especially the upgraded version that can get clues), please not that it has a tactic trait so can be attached to Stick to the Plan

Part of me loves the idea of Ace of Swords (1) + On the Trail (1) + 1 more XP card right at the start, plus the opportunity to upgrade On the Trail, plus still having room for a 5th splash card!

Part of me is not thrilled with 2 trauma, especially given that Down the Rabbit Hole generates so much free XP over the course of a campaign,,, quite a temptation though!
