INTRO
- 5/5 - Monster Fighting
- 2/5 - Clue Finding
- 5/5 - Support
- 4/5 - Survival
Primary Role: Bodyguard the Clue Finder
This build is quite simple, follow the clue finder around and give them more actions to find clues while you zap enemies with Lightning Gun.
When your not turning enemies into piles of dust, you'll be:
- Reloading.
- Giving out extra actions.
- Opening gates.
- Applying First Aid.
Because Sinclair can use his actions to give other investigators extra actions, this deck IS better with larger player counts. Ideally, four.
MONSTER FIGHTING
You are a dedicated fighter. You'll be using your Lightning Gun almost exclusively.
The main weakness to Lightning Gun is its poor ammo economy. However, you can get an additional 30 shots with:
- Extra Ammunition •
- Venturer
- Cleaning Kit
- One in the Chamber
- Emergency Cache ••• (supplying Venturer or Cleaning Kit)
- Task Force
Finding the Lightning Gun can be tricky even with 2 copies. You should always hard mulligan for it. Keep only Prepared for the Worst and Backpack •• as backups.
CLUE FINDING
You will not be finding clues except the ones you pick-up with Task Force.
I would probably rate this deck a 1/5 (even 0/5) if it wasn't for your extra actions. You should be following a clue finder around and giving them an extra action to find more clues (which is kinda like you finding clues, if you think about it).
SUPPORT
Carson Sinclair is hands down the best support investigator in the game:
- Give teammates extra actions each turn.
- "As you wish" commits.
- Open Gate for team mobility.
- Stand Together & Motivational Speech for resources and cost reduction.
- Venturer gives out supplies and ammo.
- Task Force actions.
- First Aid healing.
Safeguard •• and Open Gate really help with keeping the team close by so you can give more investigators more actions (when there is nothing to fight).
SURVIVAL
Carson has modest health and sanity values. After finding your copy of First Aid ••, you'll be patching up yourself and your teammates in your downtime. Cleaning Kit, Venturer, and Emergency Cache ••• keep it stocked with supplies. Venturer also offers a decent amount of soak as well.
With extremely low stats, the Mythos phase and its treacheries causes Carson a lot of trouble. You'll be fine, if you can heal your way out of it.
PERFECTED
Everyone has their pet investigators, ones they are just drawn to. Carson Sinclair is one of mine (along with Preston Fairmont, Norman Withers, and Father Mateo, and Jim Culver).
I've played many many Carson Sinclair builds. This Lightning gun build may seem simple, but it's also by far the best.
Other Sinclair builds:
- Bestow Resolve with cards like Promise of Power the desperate cards like Run For Your Life. This one is great at boosting your teammate's tests, but in truth your teammates often already boost the stats of the thing they are designed to do so the +4 commits are rarely needed.
- Using Hunter's Armor and Solemn Vow effects to soak all your team's damage while giving them lots of extra actions with a Well-Maintained Police Badge, Takada Hiroko, and Guidance. This is great, but you can't repeat these often. Since your not boosting your own stats, you're forced to rely on testless cards like Working a Hunch.
- A build where you boost your stats with Trial by Fire, Resourceful, Scrounge for Supplies, The Red-Gloved Man or fail forward cards like "Look what I found!" And Lucky!. This allows you to do stuff, but again isn't very repeatable only giving you bursts of usefulness.
Lightning Gun's +5 stat boost paired with being a REPEATABLE attack is why it's superior to the other builds. This gives Carson a definite role, something he was missing in the other builds. There are now tons of ways to give Lightning Gun ammo & find it faster which are the two main weaknesses of that card. Additionally the supply/ammo cards Cleaning Kit, Venturer, First Aid, and Emergency Cache also help your team. This makes him a great fighter AND support.
