So you want to play a mystic? Any mystic? Literally any mystic available to date?! Just swap the investigator to any other mystic and you have yourself a great, functioning deck.

The one caveat is differing decksizes, for my suggestions on that, see further down below!

So did you notice mystics do tent to have many things in common? And by many things, it's mostly the high willpower. No, Diana doesn't count, Diana has 6 willpower in disguise. This similarity and the notable lack of a really distinguishing ability like Sefina or Patrice lead to the viability of this one deck to rule them all (/to be able to play them all well) solution. They lack the odd one out in the likes of Carolyn, Mary, Preston, Amanda or the whole Survivor class. I personally find this to be a really lackluster part of the class, but this works nevertheless, so I hope you enjoy the actually mostly serious deckbuilding video above.

This deck has all your bases covered, which means it is viable in both multiplayer and true solo. You have your enemy management really consistent with both evasion in the form of Sword Cane (and Promise of Power) and combat with Azure Flame, Shrivelling and Spectral Razor. You have your clueving down once one of Rite of Seeking or Sixth Sense hits the table. Scroll of Secrets, Crystal Pendulum and Arcane Initiate add a great deal of consistency which means you should be able to have the right tool for the problem at hand at the ready. And with your high willpower and Deny Existence, Ward of Protection and Promise of Power you don't have to fear the encounter deck much so your defense is on point. To top that off, there is enough economy to keep you going which rounds this true flex deck off well.

As for Piloting, this should be as straightforward as the class. You want to play your Arcane spells early to have your proactive options available in combat and investigation. You'd like to set up your Pendulum early as willpower is basically the only stat you are going to test anyways. Afterwards, it's mostly dealing with the challenges of the scenario, investigate with your spell, deal with enemies as you encounter them and just slowly roll advance the scenario with a good amount of control.

I see what you’re saying about lackluster deckbuilding and don’t disagree (though I think Mateo will have two or three viable builds once Innsmouth is finished infusing Blessed cards straight to his heart, and Curses with the new spell suite look fun), but I think that’s okay. I build my wife’s decks, and she’s happy to not need to learn a bunch of new cards every time she plays. A few cards different and maybe a new character are all she wants. We’re looking for different things from the game. She wants to murder things and find the occasional clue while I want to dink with something b-tier. It’s fine.

Oh I think it's fine to have some basic, very straightforward characters and deckbuilding. I dislike how Mystics overall feel like all their finesse comes from solely their abilities and their offclass access. Upgrading main class Mystic is basically that, upgrading. You mostly just 1:1 swap cards for their higher lvl version. Again, fine to have that, sad it's their only real upgrading path.

I was about to disagree with you, but then I double checked the Mystic card pool. I didn’t compare to the other classes, but I feel confident saying they have the most ‘upgraded’ cards. A straight Mystic could easily have their start- and end-of-campaign decks be the exact same in name, even after 30+ xp. That may just be their class identity, even if it feels lackluster, as you said.

I will, however, disagree with this being the ‘only real upgrade path.’ Even if that creates a fine, competent deck, it smacks of there being a right and wrong way to play. It can be fun to try something offbeat, even if it’s a step or two below optimal.

I love your video and your deck. It is tong in cheek, but so very true. I do disagree though, that feel samey, because for the optimal build you do want to take their special ability and card pool into consideration. It is nice to have a class, you can easily introduce people into this game with. And for that your deck looks perfect for me, as it is indeed a viable option with the class staples. And in the staples tend to synergy well, because all evolves around and the Spell trait.

Also Arcane Research, while an easy twice auto include actually makes upgrading more interesting. Because 14 XP (or even more with side scenarios, less in some specific campaigns) from the "auto pilot spell upgrades" are covered with this card, this gives more XP earlier for some fancy different cards.
