Dark Horse:

Well, this is a pretty easy deck to pilot. Just make sure you get Dark Horse & optimally Madame Labranche out as soon as possible to get the Dark Horse-engine running. However, this deck doesn't us the usual Dark Horse synergy cards Fire Axe or Mariner's Compass since we want to us Duke for fighting & investigating. Use Scrapper & later Plucky instead in order to get rid of unwanted resources.

Readying Duke:

A Glimmer of Hope is a great & recurrable way to use Ashcan's ability. Additionally, Moonstone in particular is great for Ashcan since he can play it without spending an action when readying Duke. Inspiring Presence is also very nice here since it also gives you a free heal in addition to readying Duke. Other than that, you can always use a duplicate of an asset you already have or in the worst case any other expendable card.

Other Cards:

Since Ashcan doesn't really need his hand slots for weapons you generally want some cards that stack with Duke. Magnifying Glass is a cheap & fast way to increase your while Pocket Multi Tool is just a very useful tool in general that just gets better with every upgrade. Fieldwork just synergizes very well with Duke's free move before investigating. Other than that, we have the typical -staples, such as: Track Shoes. Live and Learn, Resourceful, Take Heart or the new End of the Road.

Mulligan:

Mulligan priority in that order:

  1. Dark Horse
  2. Madame Labranche
  3. Magnifying Glass/Pocket Multi Tool
  4. Fieldwork/Track Shoes
  5. Moonstone/A Glimmer of Hope

Encounter Protection:

Ashcan has good & base stats that just get better very easy with Dark Horse, Moonstone or Track Shoes. That means that you're gonna pass most of the encounter tests anyway. However, A Test of Will is very good to cancel a very bad encounter card and even works for investigators at your location. Inspiring Presence helps with healing if you really need it and also does some nice other things.
