Carson Sinclair Pure Support Deck

Introduction

This Carson Sinclair deck is designed to fill the Support role in a 3-4p group. Although I have seen a lot of popular decks for Carson that try to offset his low base stats - mainly his low -stat of 2 - with cards like Runic Axe or Lightning Gun, I still think Carson works best as a pure support character in a 4-player group that tries to avoid making skill tests. This deck performs best if it's played alongside investigators with a 5 in their primary stat. For instance, I've playtested this deck through The Scarlet Keys - a campaign that already rewards investigators with a 5 in one of their stats - in a 3 player group alongside very specialized builds of Mandy Thompson (Cluever) & Tony Morgan (Fighter) and it worked brilliantly. Turns out giving your Cluever extra actions to investigate & additional copies of Deduction and giving your fighter extra actions to fight & more Vicious Blow, while also providing them with resources, cards, soak and healing is really powerful and just works very smooth. In my games with Carson he worked especially nice with Tony Morgan, since he can make Tony even more consistent with high level -cards like Enchant Weapon, while also mitigating his low -stat & sanity with soak, healing and skill cards.

Main Strategy:

Keep yourself & your teammates alive:

Since Carson is quite fragile himself with a 2/2/2/2-statline & a 6/6-health/sanity split and having a way to soak for/heal your whole team is always useful (especially if Carson is paired with other fragile investigators), this deck contains a lot of different options that keep the whole group alive:

  • Girish Kadakia soaks for every investigator at Carson's location, while also healing himself & providing a free Unexpected Courage every turn. Definitely your best soak option in this deck.

  • Hunter's Armor also soaks for everyone at Carson's location thanks to Protective Runes. Additionally, Hexdrinker gives you a nice draw engine as well. You can also take Durable & Hallowed if you've got some spare exp to make the Armor even better.

  • Hallowed Mirror is a bit slower than the rest but is actually the only card in this deck that can heal, while also letting Carson draw some cards in the process.

  • Obsidian Bracelet is a nice other way of soaking for your team if you can't find or already used your other assets. It comes with a neat 3/3 soak but also has some limitations and doesn't offer any bonuses apart from the soak, so it's definitely the weakest option here.

Free Actions, Cards & Resources for the whole team:
  • Carson's investigator ability can already give away up to 3 extra actions in a 4p-game every turn right from turn 1. Since this build is all about pure support and your teammates are literally better at everything, you should use this ability as often as possible. Guidance also gives away one extra action, while also giving the targeted investigator a huge +1 to each skill during their whole turn. Note that you can combine your ability with Guidance in order to grant an investigator two additional actions in a single round during a critical moment.

  • Basically all the events in this deck are team support. Deep Knowledge gives your team 3 cards, No Stone Unturned is a nice filtered draw for someone who needs it and Stand Together is an incredible economy card & a -staple anyway. Ever Vigilant combined with Stick to the Plan is just an incredible card that Carson should always play with his very first action in Round 1.

  • The Practiced-cards: All 10 Skills in this deck have the Practiced-trait, meaning you should always find a valid target for Practice Makes Perfect. Basically, all your skill cards are there to be committed to other people's skill tests.

Other Cards:
  • Use Enchant Weapon on your team's primary fighter to make him even better at killing things.

  • First Watch is just a nice useful card that offers encounter protection for the whole team and is a Tactic for Stick to the Plan.
