Introduction:
Zoey Samaras has been around right from the start and just about every player has seen her in action. Most of her decks are straightforward and geared all the way toward fighting enemies. Sadly, this makes them rather similar and interchangeable. This deck is an attempt to break with tradition and reshape her role into a more support-oriented protector while retaining most of her fighting ability.
Crystal Support Zoey
Role: Enemy Manager / Support
Strengths:
-
Fighting
-
High tempo, nearly no setup required
-
Protecting and supporting teammates
-
Needs very few resources for a Guardian
Weaknesses:
-
Lack of card draw without upgrades
-
Lack of durability without upgrades
-
Slightly less powerful in fights than other guardians
The Concept: Zoey + Engagement Actions + Crystallizer = Profit
Zoey`s built-in resource generation engine is highly synergistic with engagement actions, making most of them refund their cost or generate a profit. This makes it possible to maintain high tempo for fighting enemies at little to no cost. You generally want to fight every turn and have all your teammates free to investigate.
Crystallizer of Dreams ties the deck together and makes the support role possible. Now all those actions can be committed to help out your teammates. Alternatively, they can increase our own consistency, especially in and test. The Guardian of the Crystallizer is just a road bump for Zoey and funnily even generates resources since it engages.
Our three-way synergy lends itself to an action-heavy deck with few assets and skills. Thankfully, not many of those are needed to fight effectively. No explanation for the assets and skills is needed, since they are fairly standard. If you don`t care about the taboo list, feel free to use the Machete instead of the .45 Automatic as well. Mulligan hard for a weapon and the Crystallizer as you want one or both right from the start.
The Actions:
-
"Get over here!", Taunt, On the Hunt , First Watch and "Let me handle this!" are the core of the deck. They keep the other investigators from having to spend precious actions on monsters and make sure you always have enemies to fight.
-
Prepared for the Worst makes sure you get away with playing very few assets so you have more deck slots and upgrade points left for your actions.
-
Stand Together is superior to Emergency Cache in this deck because it has a icon. It also goes nicely with the more support-oriented theme. You could also use Clean Them Out for resource generation as a more aggressive but less consistent and thematic alternative.
-
Glory is our only form of card draw without actions, which is one of our greatest weaknesses. Thankfully, we get more card draw options later with our upgrades.
-
Astounding Revelation is here because we plan on getting Stick to the Plan as our first upgrade. It makes our start much more powerful and consistent.
-
A Test of Will is very consistent with the amount of you can commit via Crystallizer. It is great support card and has an edge over Ward of Protection in this deck since it can be used to save other investigators as you should mostly be drawing enemies anyway thanks to First Watch and On the Hunt.
-
Dynamite Blast is included to help mitigate the very annoying Smite the Wicked. Later on we put it under Stick to the Plan for added consistency.
The Upgrades:
-
Priority 1: Stick to the Plan. It effectively raises your starting resources from 5 to 7 and your starting hand size from 5 to 8. Except for Dynamite Blast the other two cards you attach are flexible. With upgrades you want Taunt, Dynamite Blast and Extra Ammunition as your three cards.
-
Priority 2: Your endgame weapon of choice. I like Flamethrower, but feel free to use whatever else you enjoy.
-
Priority 3: Relic Hunter. So you can have Crystallizer of Dreams and Zoey's Cross at the same time.
-
Priority 4: Upgraded actions. Extra Ammunition is very important because we have few weapons for a guardian. "Get over here!", Taunt, Dynamite Blast, Stand Together and "I've had worse…" are all great and you want them eventually. The order depends on your campaign and your preferences.
-
Priority 5: Vanity upgrades. Keen Eye, Vicious Blow, Beat Cop and a second endgame weapon. These are all kind of nice, but not essential enough to buy sooner.
