Introduction:

Minh is one of my personal favourite investigators, with one of the best card pools and also the first one that was clearly made to use a lot of Skills. Often disregarded, the Skill cards offer here a lot of Draw as well as oversuccess that help you with your weakness and let you scavenge a lot of nice stuff.

After the warm welcome of the Beginner Decks made for Zoey, Rex, Jenny, Jim and Pete, I decided to go for a last Series of Beginner Deck Guides for The Path to Carcosa.

Find the other Carcosa Beginner Decks:
Mythos Busting Mark
Sefine-Art Black Magic Painter
Akachi Ony-Elemental Mage
Yorick Gold Digger
• I decided not to propose a Deck for Lola Hayes on purpose as even with the help of the community, we couldn't find any Deck that made us feel like you wouldn't regret playing any other investigator instead. If she piqued your curiosity, keep her in a corner of your mind until you have a bit more cards.

Table of Contents:

Overview:

Enemy Management: ★★☆☆☆
Clue-getting: ★★★★☆
Encounter protection: ★★★☆☆
Survivability: ★★★☆☆
Economy: ★★★☆☆
Card Drawing: ★★★★☆

Main Strategy:

• Use Skills to trigger your and succeed any test. Get Cards back after committing thanks to Analytical Mind.

• Use Scavenging to recur items committed to tests or empty.

Getting Clues:

With only 4 , Minh Thi Phan needs a little boost to be the main Cluever of your group:

Boosting your :

Dr. Milan Christopher brings you to 5 and gives you a resource that is well needed later on to pay for your Ice Picks (3)

Magnifying Glass also always nice, cheap static boost.

Flashlight gives you a theoretical +2 , the only difference is that if the location has a Shroud of 2 or less, it then becomes 0 and you cannot fail unless you pull the .

• Finally you are tremendously helped by the big number of Skill Cards or items that you can commit for +1 or 2 and Scavenge.

Increase your Tempo by getting multiple Clues at once:

• Deduction as always, and upgrades to Deduction (2) for even better results.

"Look what I found!" turns a failure into 2 clues, always good. The pinacle of cluever mechanic.

Ice Pick (3) is a centrepiece of this Deck, giving you +1 clue as often as you can pay for them.

• Newspaper (2) gives you an extra clue every time you emptied your pool, which is actually quite often, especially in smaller player counts.

• Eon Chart (4) theoretically gives you 1 more Investigate Action that can be considered as an extra clue, though it involves another test. The Move action allows you to dedicate more other actions to investigate.

•• With Scavenging, you can recycle your Eon Charts which is already insane, but even better: exhaust and use the last charge on Eon Chart to get + 1 Move and +1 Investgation. Use the free Investigate action to play Unearth the Ancients (2) and play your other Eon Chart to replace the empty one. As it comes into play un-exhausted, you can use it immediately for even more actions and you even draw a card since it is a Relic.

Scavenging:

There are 3 main uses for Scavenging here:

Clue Acceleration:

Minh Thi Phan is not as effective as Rex Murphy at finding clues, but that changes as soon as you can reliably scavenge the Ice Pick (3)

• Play Ice Pick (3) A

• 1st Investigate: commit Play Ice Pick (3)

• Only if you succeed, discard Ice Pick (3) A to get 2 clues

• Get a resource from Dr. Milan Christopher

• If you succeed by 2 or more, exhaust Scavenging A to get back Ice Pick (3) B from your Discard Pile.

• Play Ice Pick (3) B using the resource from Dr. Milan Christopher

• 2nd Investigate: commit Play Ice Pick (3) B.

• Only if you succeed, discard Ice Pick (3) B to get 2 clues

• If you succeed by 2 or more, exhaust Scavenging B to get back Ice Pick (3) A from your Discard Pile.

• Play Ice Pick (3) B using the resource from the Upkeep Phase or Schoffner's Catalogue.

• Repeat!

Items to commit to tests:

When there are an odd number of clues, you do not need to spend 2 Ice Picks (3) during your turn. You can then use Scavenging to recur other Items.

Flashlight and Magnifying Glass both commit for 1 , later Newspaper (2) and Eon Chart (4) both commit for and you can cycle them as they are both Items!

• Eon Chart (4) also commits for for Scenario Tests when you cannot use your Mind over Matter.

Money:

Schoffner's Catalogue is of course an amazing target for Scavenging, it pays for its second copy, doesn't use a Slot, isn't unique and pays for Flashlight, Magnifying Glass, Ice Pick (3), Eon Chart (4) and can even be committed for a and Scavenged if need be.

King-in-Yellow.png

Other Cards:

Lucky! is a 's staple, because it is reactive, you can only use it when really needed.

• Mind over Matter is always nice for Scenario Tests like Locked Door, Locations, Parley or even help your to evade an enemy to prevent an attack.

• No Stone Unturned is a great tutoring card, especially useful in this Deck since its Draw power relies heavily on Analytical Mind and not finding it early enough can be extremely damaging for the consistency fo the Deck.

• Shortcut is always amazing and versatile to unlock certain situations and get ahead of time before you get many more actions thanks to Eon Chart (4).

• Eureka!, Inquiring Mind Perception, and Strength in Numbers as are as many chances to succeed at tests and help overcommit to deal with The King in Yellow.

• Resourceful is mainly targeted at cards that you would like to Scavenge but you do not have the 2 copies yet. You can also bring back "Look what I found!" or Lucky! to gain more uses of them.

Cryptic Research is terrific, it really helps to find your good cards faster.

Upgrade Path:

Flashlight x2 Ice Pick (3) x2 - 6xp - Total Axp

•• This is really the key upgrade of this Deck, from here it's already achieving terrific results.

"Look what I found!" x2 Eon Chart (4) x2 - 8xp - Total 14xp

•• You are rarely failing and you get many more actions out of the 2 resources.

No Stone Unturned x2 Cryptic Research x2 - 8xp - Total 22xp

•• Instead of revealing cards, why not draw them immediately, free and .

• Magnifying Glass x2 Newspaper (2) x2 - 4xp - Total 26xp

•• Brings you an extra clue every once in a while as well as a second to commit and bring back with Scavenging.

• Shortcut x2 Unearth the Ancients (2) - 4xp - Total 30xp

•• Play the Eon Charts that you scavenged fast for a better tempo.

Resourceful x2 Strength in Numbers x2 - 2xp - Total 32xp

•• You need to wait for Eon Chart to really get the best out of it, and you now get a lot more value from it than Resourceful since there are not so many cards anymore.

• Deduction x2 Deduction (2) x2 - 4xp - Total 36xp

•• More chances to succeed and more clues for doing so.

Make your own Deck!:

• If you have access to Stella Clark and Harvey Walters, these cards are worth considering: Mind over Matter (2), Perception (2)

• This Deck is really easily adaptable for True Solo! Bring Strange Solutions and 2 Emergency Cache (3) to refill them with Supplies or bring resources based on what you need the most. Ice Pick (3) also boosts combat. Finally, Michael Leigh is amazing for this Deck.

•• Here is the link to a Full XP version.

• There was a possibility to choose Jeremiah Kirby paired with A Chance Encounter instead of Dr. Milan Christopher, but the Deck didn't really match "Even" or "Odd" especially as Minh Thi Phan is encouraged to use a lot of Skill Cards.

• If you don't mind proxying cards, Scavenging (2) increases tremendously the power of this Deck:

•• Replacing Eon Charts fast the same turn as you empty them
•• Cycle Schoffner's Catalogue for infinite money
•• Scavenge-play Newspaper while you collect the last clue before spending them so you have it on the table when you go back to 0 clues.

• Other nice cards with a broader collection are Grisly Totem for great card draw and the Dream Diary instead of Ice Pick (3) for a bit more diversity in gameplay, maybe Mariner's Compass before Newspaper.

• By now it's the 4th Ice Pick (3) Deck that I've released, with Rex Murphy, "Ashcan" Pete and Minh Thi Phan. The reason for this is that this card is simply too good to not take with anyone that can grab them from their discard pile or cycle their Deck fast enough to see them regularly, especially with such a small collection. If you are tired of them or play with William Yorick, just keep your Magnifying Glass and you'll do just fine.

If you are playing this Deck with the others of the series and only 1 collection, here is a proposed way to distribute the overlapping cards for each investigator:

Mythos Busting Mark|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Scavenge-Minhg|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Sefine-Art Black Magic Painter|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Akachi Ony-Elemental Mage|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Yorick Gold Digger|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Thanks a lot! Please do, it's not my most popular, but I have to confess that Minh is one of my favourite investigators, especially with a Deck like this!

Feel free to give feedback once you're done, it's always a happy moment for me to know how the Deck performed, if you had fun and what your suggestions would be!

Great series as it follows what I have available (Revised Core + Investigator Packs) I've been wanting to try Minh and this deck looks great. Any changes you would make with the Scarlet Keys?

@mannthearena thanks for the comment and happy you like the series of decks!

With the TSK in hand, I would completely shift my approach of Minh towards something more Darrelly. Here's an example of how I think she could be really good with some clue dropping and evasion to 0 tech.

Great deck. I used this yesterday and Mark & Minh aced the first Carcosa scenario. Only gripe I have is the use of Edge of the Earth cards in a beginner deck. I would expect a beginner not to have access to cards from campaigns further down the line. I sure don't as I'm playing them in order. I swapped the Catalogs out for Newspaper and it all worked out great :) The guide was indeed very helpful. Thanks for the work you put in!

Hi i Will try this investigador Ford my next campagne and i like to ask You Other nice cards with a broader collection are Grisly Totem for great card draw What You Will replease flor the totem i like the card but i don't undertud if you change ice pick flor totem

@arnoud this answer comes much too late, but in case anyone has the same thought, the reason I made this series including EotE was because of the new release model. Many players ended up having Edge of the Earth before many older campaigns.

And loads of deck guides were already made in release order as these investigators got out.

@sheepote Grisly Totem is a great card, but the deck is better off scavenging Eon Chart (4) as it does not struggle to draw cards. If I had a bigger collection, I would bring in Unrelenting, Sharp Vision and most importantly Scavenging (2)
